I am breaking my contract after 8 months in October. I had been planning on giving the two months notice required by my contract, but I have recently heard horror stories of teachers giving notice and being terminated on the spot. Does anyone have experience with breaking contracts? How did you go about it? How did your boss handle it? Thanks.

You are supposed to get one month notice for being terminated.

Many Koreans don't follow the rules. Let's not generalize, my boss even cosigned for a credit card for me.

Not for at least 9 months. But eventually, perhaps.

Wait until payday and leave that weekend. Don't forget to turn in your alien card to immigration on the way out.

If your boss is a scumbag then all the better. It gives me some sick satisfaction when I hear about the foreign teacher screwing over their Korean boss. Sadly, it's usually the boss doing the shafting.

Good luck.

My boss is a cabron, to be fair. Right now, he and his wife are talking about giving us our insurance cards. We're playing it cool right now, but we all know we don't really have insurance. That's neither here nor there. But I don't know how I'm going to handle the kids. I can't imagine leaving them without saying goodbye. But I don't want to get screwed either.

if you aren't going to work here again before your contract expires... just bail mate...

yea, it's hard to walk out on the kids... but take care of number 1..

you could always give notice and hope he is greatful that you went about it the right way...

your call.. good luck..
