I saw this on the news Sunday night. Part of the ceiling collapsed and air conditioning ducts etc. fell through. They kept the store open, eventually just hanging some rugs to cover the offending hole.
Money talks, bullshite is jogging in the safety zone. |

Wasn't this something that happened years ago or a building collapsed. This one may too if they don't fix it and try to cover up. Geeze, don't these folks ever learn?
They say money talks. But, do we do this kind of crap in the West? (OK, Sub Prime BS aside.) |

A few years back the TechMart building vibrated (by East Seoul Terminal). They shut down the building for a few days as engineers checked it out. But they found on issues. |

Maybe you're thinking of the Sampoong Department Store Collapse? There are a lot of parallels between that event and the Sewol re: revenue > public safety. |

The slogan of Korea 'sparkling' is very apt (a big pile of gold coins).
I think some modesty would help with international relations though.
Perhaps a supporting slogan like; 'Not always, but we try our best!' - next to it, a picture of the Sewol captain drying his (not sparkling) Man wons out. |

Are you referring to the TechnoMart at Shindorim Station?
That was the case when the building first opened, and they couldn't figure out why the building was vibrating.
After concluding an investigation, they deemed the vibration to be caused by the aerobics classes. Too many people jumping at the same time! (I don't make this stuff up.) |

Yes, I believe that was it. But it was already opened for a good few years before that vibration incident happened. Didn't they shut down the building for a week to check it out?
Anyways, not sure how serious this Hyundai Department store thing is. It could be just the ceiling squares (whatever they call that decoration stuff to make the ceiling look more appealing). And the media making it look more serious for just cosmetic faults. However, if it's the actual upper floor falling then they do need to shut the building down. |

I saw on the news, they're blaming the incident on an obese American tourist who was wearing heels.
The pressure on the floor caused her heel to go through the 4cm base layer of concrete....
As a precaution they're now banning all heels from the shopping mall. |
