I'm looking to get vaccinated against Japanese Encephalitis in Korea. There are several different vaccines for the disease. Due to my time frame and an overall superior safety record, I'm looking for one of the single-dose vaccines. Has anyone gotten the vaccine in just one dose in Korea, if so, where?

So far I've only found the 2-3 dose Korean manufactured vaccine, so I'd really appreciate a hospital or clinic name not just "all over the place" even if all over the place is the correct answer. Smile

Thanks.

The disease is very very rare. Basically unheard of anymore.

Basically correct, but there's currently an outbreak in Taipei, for example. Also, the reason it's rare in Korea is because of routine childhood vaccination.

Don't worry. I've looked into the numbers and decided that for my personal circumstances the 2nd or 3rd gen vaccine makes sense if I can find it. I'm not interested in the 1st gen vaccine because the 0.6% chance of severe side effects outweighs the very low risk of getting the disease. The 2nd gen vaccine has only minor side effects at the most, so it's worth it to me since my plans take me to areas for long periods of time where it is endemic and where I will be sleeping in rooms without a/c and with less than effective window screens plus tons of mosquitoes.

Anyway, not really here to debate whether or not I should get it, just hoping to find someone who has. Although maybe that was the point of your reply and I've misunderstood.

I looked into it before I came and wasn't able to pick it up because the version available at home was 2 shots 8 (or 16, I can't remember) weeks apart, and the timing didn't work out.

When I lived in a metropolitan area I didn't concern myself with not having it, but now living in a rural area I thought it prudent to pick it up. Yes, I second the reason it is so rare is the childhood vaccination program.

However, as far as I was able to determine, the only version available in my vicinity was the 3 shot version. Initial, +1 week, +1year. Then you're covered for life apparently.

I never got that one. I'd be curious about it myself though I've been bitten by mosquitoes here for years so I'm probably immune to it. KInd of like West Nile, just strikes a small per centage?

Anyways, are the vaccines here ok? I mean the Korean ones? I got a bunch before coming over here, like Twinrix for Hep A and B. But, it would be good to get some others in case I travel to less developed countries. (Polio booster, Jap Encip, etc.)
