Korean bakery chain Paris Baguette has opened a store in Paris. According to the article, they have altered their recipes in France and are making less sweet bread. Hopefully they will follow that idea here in Korea.

"There's no reason a Korean company can't become the best French bakery chain in the world," Ahn Tae-ju, a company executive who has helped plan Paris Baguette's overseas expansion, said in an interview.

They have a couple of stores in NYC....have for a few years now....they also altered the recipes for the US (garlic bread that isn't covered in sugar.) It has no effect on what they sell over here. Korean's love their bread sweet.

Ha ha, that's pretty optimistic. I guess it is logically possible that a Korean company can become the best French bakery in the World. But one thing's for sure, it's not going to be Paris Baguette.

Yes, there is. PB is a far cry from being the best bakery in Korea, so good luck topping the French.

Have any of you guys been out to Seorae Village? I'm been meaning to check it out for a few weeks now. Heard there is a pretty nice craft beer pub and a great burger joint there. (Craftbros & Brooklyn Burger)

They are the reason I stopped eating bread and pastry completely some 12 years ago Smile

There is some quality bread to be had there (though I usually go to the bakeries near Sangsu station, since Seorae is far from where I live). Even the Paris Croissant there is good! I've heard a lot of good things about Brooklyn Burger, but no firsthand experience. Craftworks beer is good.

Go to their site (linked in the above post), go to "Locations", and scroll over to Korea. Look at the body of water between Korea and Japan and you'll see it says... *dramatic music* "Sea of Japan" Laughing

Yes, I know the map is run by Google. But still.

I went to one of these in Flushing. Ordered a large iced americano, and the barista only put one shot in, claiming all drinks get a single shot.
got a donut, and it was full of black bean paste.
all the local kids who worked there wore the same berets and striped shirts.
very similar to korean PB. Also similar, i got to 3rd base with the korean cashier in the alley.

They definitely didn't alter their recipes where I'm at in Georgia - everything here is still sugar coated.

How have they managed to stay in business?

It's at the heart of the fresh off the boat Korean/Chinese/Vietnamese communities. Place is always packed, with not a few white people mixed in.
