|
|
Hey guys,
I made an iherb order about a week and a half ago and it hasn't arrived... I tried to make another, and it said that I have to have a "Personal Customs Clearance Code" to ship here.
Does anyone know what it is, or how to get one? I tried google.
Thank you! |

Apparently Korean companies lobbied the government to make it harder for individuals to import things (all the while pushing for lower trade barriers for businesses, of course). I don't know how to get around this either, but I'd better find out though, because I want to order from iHerb soon too! |

Without the code, "your order will be held by the custom broker in Korea, and then they will ask you for a copy of your passport."
That's a drag. iHerb has been a godsend here in Korea.
I e-mailed the address they gave. Maybe I'll get an answer. The website is unhelpful.
This is why I always ask my U.S. senators to vote against FTAs.
I just got off livechat with iHerb. They said use the contact info they give on the website. They were apologetic about the problem. |

You can actually get english instructions here: http://www.iherb.com/info/personal-Customs-Code
But yes, the certificate part is a pain. I've heard you can get one from the bank that you use as you need it as well to sign up for most internet banking.
But, it's a big headache and as with most korean sites here, I think you need to sign up with Internet Explorer. Also, don't forget when inputting your name that it's usually no spaces and last name first, then first name and middle name.
I've heard some people have tried to just put in their alien registration number into that PCC area and their order went through, but I think they are going to have trouble at customs....I'll let you know as they ordered last week. |

I recently got an order from i herb with no prblems within the past couple of weeks. But, once I ordered from LL Bean and I got called from UPS and asked for my passport number. I also ordered some e cig material from halo company and customs sent some info to my school (shipping address). I had to fill it out what it was. Got my co teacher to fax it. Got a fax back telling me I had to pay some duty. Went to the post office paid it, got the form stamped, and faxed it back to them. Got my package shortly after that. |

As of now, Customs portal website has not established its system for foreigners to Korea. Please put your ARC number and process on your order. If you do not have one for yourself, please leave the box blank. Once your package arrives in Korea, we will call you for the passport number. This will be temporary and we will figure out the best and most convenient way for customers. I am sorry for such inconvenience, and thank you in advance for your generous understanding.
Thank you. |
Contact info is on the iHerb website. |

I don't think that's it at all. This is probably part of the obfuscating personal data.
Rather than giving out your ID number or passport number to some random company you give out a personal number that isn't some personal information about you.
Same idea behind the I-pin. |

Yeah but it only comes up after you go through the check-out. Hope this can help someone:

You'll need someone to help you fill it out if you can't read Korean though. I can't seem to get pass the certificate part. |
Thanks for the link. It was relatively painless for me. As long as you have a security certificate and can get all of the crappy security software to install, it's straightforward.
Now as to the rationale for this nonsense, I haven't the slightest. Resident registration number was working fine for me. Maybe customs just wants people to visit their terrible website. |

Step 1 - Login in with your ID and password..
And...blocked.
When I try to click on register under the login, IE turns to gibberish. |

Sigh...ya know the worst part about shit like this is that I could understand if Korea had a very fragile "Hemp Protein Powder" industry...but it doesn't. Nothing on iHerb is a threat to Korean agriculture or trade. So fucking pointless. |

The very act of sending your money outside of Korea, circumventing any Korean middlemen, is considered a threat. |
