Some of us have done OK in Korea and elsewhere in Asia AND we still post on Dave's to try to help those who follow in our footsteps.

I think some people on here have done well, but nobody on here is filthy rich, or maybe we have different thresholds on what we consider filthy rich. My parents are worth probably somewhere between four and eight million US dollars, but they're just upper middle class people on a budget. My mom drives a Toyota and my dad drives an old truck and haggles prices down on clothes, groceries, etc. They can't go out and buy a 170' yacht for 25 million dollars because that's what rich people do, and mom and dad don't have that kind of money or anywhere close to it. Dad still works the land. George Soros doesn't work the land. Soros is filthy rich. |

They have enough. They're very fortunate. It doesn't mean they're "filthy rich." They're on a budget. If they weren't, they'd soon go broke just like a lot of professional athletes who didn't budget and went broke. Most of us on Dave's are actually very fortunate, because we have lifestyles and budgets that wouldn't have been possible if we had been born in a slum in Bangladesh, sub-Sahara Africa, or many parts of the world. But let's not get carried away and pretend we're Soros, Gates, or Rothschild. 
Thinking enough isn't enough isn't exclusively an American trait. You've spent enough time in Gangnam to know that by now. |

| As EZE says, "rich" in America is very difficult to calculate as 'net worth' or 'value' is different than disposable income. It's one thing to remember with taxes that claim to be "against the rich" a lot of time they just end up screwing people like farmers or landlords who have a lot of assets but don't generate tremendous amounts of income. |

Many Chinese make $4K/yr and feel they have enough, that they are fortunate. |

Wow! Americans are so rich. Even when you're poor, you're rich. But, being frugal, haggling, and saving is not such a bad idea. |

Your existence has nothing to do with the topic which is being discussed. The nice thing about opinions is that everyone has one and unlike you who has "set the world"on fire at your young age, some of us prefer to be honest with their posts. Now, unless you are ready to begin posting the direct figures of your quickly acquired wealth, which by the way is most likely done 'illegally,' then just post things related to the facts. |

You seem like a likable person and I have no beef with you. So let it go. Good for you making all the money. Share your wisdom about how to do it and people will stop berating your comments as someone who says a lot with nothing to back it up. I like your energy and motivation. People could learn from your example if the amount of money you posted is accurate. I mentioned age because 40 & 50-something year olds don't come on here and boast about their accomplishments. BTW, I went the route of Korean naturalization as to why my opinions matter. I don't speak as a foreign worker with a short term goals, but as someone who has committed to the country in a very different way. Are you Korean? (I would guess not, because 99% of Koreans are extremely tight lipped about their income and wealth) Do you plan on staying for a career? (I am guessing you plan to make your mark here and then move onto bigger and better somewhere else once things aren't as productive) Did you report all of your income the the NTS? (That is a no brainer that needs no explanation) You understand where I am coming from? |
