So one of the many issues holding me back is my transcript. Because of some registrar and timing issues, I have a blinking red F for one of my courses. Now I've read some posts about transcripts not being a big deal for immigration purposes, but if the school does require it, what are my chances? I've browsed some jobs already that don't mention the transcript initially in the posting but ask for it later in the application form.
Thanks in advance. |

Transcripts are not an immigration requirement, and haven't been for a few years. You need them for a public school position, but not for a hagwon job. Some recruiters and schools do have outdated information though, and still ask for them.
It does sound from your post like you intend on applying to a hagwon? A lot of schools/recruiters just change the dates etc on years old postings, contracts etc, so sometimes it can simply be a matter of pointing out that transcripts are no longer an immigration requirement, and the issue will be dropped (or at least, that was what I found when I was applying)
I don't know anything about the requirements for public schools, although I do know there's a minimum GPA they accept. But if you're applying for a hagwon job they're not required.
Getting transcripts notarised and apostilled is also an unnecessary extra expense so I wouldn't worry about them. |

One "F" is a non-issue. They are not reading your transcripts other than for your GPA and to confirm graduation.
Immigration no longer wants them.
If you are Canadian then the consulate only wants them when they certify your degree.

Hagwons can ask for a transcript but it's not a general requirement for all hagwon jobs. I suppose it's a similar story to jobs requiring a certain number of work references; some employers seem to think these things provide insight into the quality of the candidate.
With EPIK now rejecting applicants for low GPAs, I guess they don't wanna get stuck with what they perceive as the reject teachers. If you can't be bothered getting the transcript apostilled, there are plenty of Hagwons that don't need it. |

GPA? Why, so EPIK can boast how they took in some high GPA graduates and conformed them into glorified babysitters?
No offense meant to those who had a 4.0, but this is ridiculous.
Show me a Korean exchange student (or uni student here) that has written an original research paper on his/her own, in Englishee, and perhaps I will show my GPA.
Hell, even my current boss TRIED to have me write a research paper for her daughter. |

Transcripts are the best proof that you graduated from a school. The paper cannot be copied (it's like money), also they are delivered sealed. Also they are interested in what school you graduated from and with what grade point average. One F is unlikely to matter. I'm not even sure why Immigration goes through his apostille process. It's just plain dumb and rigid. |

Many years ago at my university we all had to give contact information (office of the registrars) for all of our degrees. It was a form from the immigration office and we had to then sign it. The immigration office DID verify them. If they want to do it, they can. Also, a few years ago we had all of out diplomas verified by some Korean government agency. That was also fast and easy and I know they DID it. |

Schools ask for GPA now? Crap! That sucks. Good thing I got over here before they asked for that and got grandfathered in. This market needs to recover so that employers quit being douchy like that. |
