| The person who was hired to replace me was sent home to to high blood pressure. The doctor refused to sign off on it. This was a few weeks ago. |

| Always score high on the blood pressure tests at the hospital. But if tested elsewhere it's usually normal. Don't know why, but never has been an issue for getting rehired. |

I don't think so. First of all, a doctor doesn't have the authority to "sign off" on anything. The hospital just creates a report and Immigration decides if there's a problem. If the doctor was somehow refusing to give the paperwork, he's a jerk, and the person could have just gone to a different hospital. There's a small chance this happened and the teacher was too green to know any better, but I think what really happened is that the teacher tested positive for drugs, and your boss doesn't want anyone to know about it. |

From what I was told, the doctor said that he couldn't check the box stating that she was in good health and thus the BoE rejected it. Since I was leaving, I didn't really care. I know that they told her she failed the medical check, but my boss paid for her airfare back to the US and gave her some money for the trouble. |

I'm not sure if all hospital health check forms have such a box to check, but the BoE could have imagined all kinds of possibilities from that unchecked box.
The teacher just should have gone to a different hospital. |

There is a pass/fail box on the official combined E-2/E-10 medical check form from immigration. To view this form, click here:

Then, at the bottom of the page, under the "기타" heading you will find the form named "회화지도(E-2),선원취업(E-10) 채용신체검사서"
I didn't see this box on an E-2 only form I saw online somewhere else.
However, there should be no problem with immigration over high blood pressure.
BUT . . . the academy's director and/or the doctor may not understand that. The doctors who do the E-2 checks often do health check for E-10 (ship crew) as well. The doctor may believe the person should fail because of high blood pressure. For an E-10 visa, I would suspect this would be a failure. It should not be a failure for an E-2 visa. But, immigration does not care about this. So, in this case everyone legitimately believes the teacher has failed the medical check even though they should not have.
In this type of case, the teacher should try to convince their boss to still take them to immigration or (at least) to call immigration to double check this. They WILL NOT have a problem AT IMMIGRATION because of high blood pressure alone.
If the teacher needs proof of this for their boss (or a doctor), they should file a petition at http://www.epeople.go.kr/jsp/user/on/eng/intro01.jsp. There they can get a written response from immigration about the matter. |

Many hospitals and drugstores have free BP machines. Just sit down, sit your arm into the cuff and push the button. Most machines have charts or diagrams that show what is normally considered an acceptable range.
For a more sophisticated interpretation, have BP taken on both arms and get a doctor who knows about this to look at the results. |

| No need to worry. When i did my medical for SOME i had very high blood pressure. The nurse gave me 10 minutes to relax and then tested me again. I failed a second time. So she let me relax for another 20 minutes. I failed for the 3rd time. In fact, my blood pressure was almost higher each time. So she asked me was it always so high. I told her the truth that it's always much lower but it was high because i hate hospitals and getting poked and prodded makes me angry. She laughed and just told me to keep an eye on it. The high blood pressure was recored onto my paper but she passed me overall given that everything else was ok. |
