After faxing the CRA the "NR73 Determination of Residency Status (Leaving Canada)," approximately how long does it take to hear back from them their "non-binding" decision?
Been in Korea for over 10 years now, but have not bothered to inform them of my "status" and don't want to suddenly be subject to a tax audit. In any event, I've got nothing to hide, but just can't be bothered with the potential "hoops and hurdles" CRA would undoubtedly make one jump through, making a mountain out of a mole hill.
And before somebody posts and says" You dummy, you shouldn't have even told them in the first place as now you're on their radar screen", I'd just like to say things usually catch up to you in the end, so I'd rather it be sooner than later. At some point in time, they'll have to be informed. I'd of done so sooner had I known that I wasn't already "ticked off" as a Non-Resident.
Anyways, back to my question. Now that I've faxed them the Forms, how long should I expect to hear an answer back from them?
Many thanks in advance to those who take the time to post a sensible response. |

I think they tell you 4-6 weeks. I got mine in a month. Just be patient, it'll come. |

Thanks Fuzzy... May good Karma come your way for taking the time to post a reply for me. I truly appreciate that.
Cheers... |

Just an update on the "Application for Non-Residency" forms I mailed and faxed away on Sept.19 (about 6 weeks ago).
I phoned then today and asked about my status explaining that I'm not sure whether they received my mail or possibly their mail got lost in the postal system. Much to my dismay, the officer told me that it NOW takes about "6 MONTHS" to review the forms and provide an answer back. In the past he said it usually took "1 MONTH", but now it's 6.
Oh, but he's very sorry about that.
Great.... |

Sorry to hear that. Just sit tight. It's all you can do. But, hey...You've waited ten years. What's another five months |

So, it's almost been 6 months and all I received from Revenue Canada in October 2014, was a letter verifying that they had in fact received my "application" for "non-residency for tax purposes status."
And just today, I had a look at that old letter I received and noticed that address was incorrect. Instead of 553-20, it read 563-20.
So, perhaps other letters were indeed sent, but they went to the wrong house. Who knows? Trying to phone them and have somebody polite enough to speak with me over the phone is proving quite difficult not only due to the time differences between here and Toronto, but also the fact that speaking with them is somewhat like being interrogated. Them asking for exact dates, when honestly I have no clue other than it was 10-13 years ago. Either here, Thailand, or visiting/working part-time in Canada in the late 90" or early 2000's. I seriously don't remember the years, let alone months.
Oh well, all good things come to those who wait, right?
Any other Canadian currently or recently experience the same thing as I (minus the incorrect address part)?
Cheers... |

Just got the "letter" from Renevue Canada Taxation Department deeming me a non-binding "Non-resident of Canada for Tax Purposes."
Be prepared to wait 6 months to the date. That's the new wait time. |
