"Dummies like the Americans." You sure are a bore. And nobody believes you had that conversation at lunch. It's just you, in all your dullness, taking yet another bash at the United States. You know the US...the country without which you'd be staring at an open space right now instead of a computer screen. But yeah, they be dummies.

Silly, pathetic child

KimchiNinja is an American according to previous posts, so maybe the woman was having a laugh. Or she wasn't and he thinks it's hilarious to be called a dummy. Who knows?

Well, I know LOL. Idea

My passport says American but that's all, I don't feel any association with that culture or those people.

You made all your millions working for an American company didn't you? Are you not at least a bit grateful for that?

Sure, I suppose so. Money was really the only good thing about the USA.

Maybe I need to see this yell teaching TED. My imagination is currently not up to seeing how this could be an optimal way to teach English for anything more than a 5-minute drill for beginner younguns.

The Korean I talked to said "if you don't yell they will not listen, they will just space out, you need to get their attention, and there are ways to do that, including yelling". Dunno anything about it, sounds kinda crazy, but who am I to say.

Just had lunch with the woman...

She said "that's true, talking loudly is an effective teaching strategy" and also "swearing at kids", and sometimes "telling kids if they don't pay attention they are going to be dummies like the Americans".

Still recovering from my fit of laughter, she said she doesn't do #3 that often, but it's card that can be played if necessary.

A possible comeback to that could be:

"Do you yell at the kids in Japanese?"

"No, of course not"

"Yeah, American dummies are the reason why".

I yell in class a lot, must have picked it up in Korea. I agree its effective.
