If its the LIA branch I'd steer clear of the place unless you're in love with the location.
The pros: you'll be paid on time, they do actually pay into your pension, its a wealthy area so most of the kids already speak pretty good English, and most of the teachers are housed near Gangnam station which is a well serviced area with lots to do.
The cons: you'll be working 10.5 hour days during summer and winter intensives without seeing an extra dime, they won't honor the contract if its inconvenient for them, there's 7 vacation days - only 3 of which are consecutive (and realistically you won't get all of them), you'll pay a hefty maintenance fee each month for an unserviced apartment, there's a high turnover rate, runners aren't unheard of, and the management is generally unprofessional and antagonistic. |

Hii
Thanks for the input. I would be keeping my own apartment actually ...and yes, I'll bet the prices for utilities near Gangnam station are astronomical.
This branch is supposed to be within walking distance to Gangnam station ..does it sound like the one and same branch you're talking about?
And, i guess you know someone that worked there as you seem to know it well? I thought the hours sounded good 1:30-8:30, but if there's a high turnover rate, that 's a good indication to me to stay away.
Thanks for the input |

YBM's are everywhere so its hard to tell, the place I'm thinking of is about a 10 minute walk to Gangnam station in one direction and 5 minute walk to SNU station in the other. I don't want to potentially out anyone so I won't give specific details, but it seems likely we're talking about the same place. Again, its a good area and the hours are (mostly) good, but the director is a very unpleasant woman and the intensives are killer - think 12 classes, back to back, with 30 minutes of prep time, and no breaks other than the 5 minutes between class periods. |
