Not good enough.

If you want to prove you are not a troll then say something and reason your point.

Do not just copy and paste the same article again and again and again as if it means something.

You only started responding again after I said that whilst the British Empire was responsible for many evil acts, they were not in the same league as the Nazis or the Japanese.

Now I didn't think that was a particularly controversial statement and it is not saying much that their actions was not on par with Treblinka.

My point was that the British Empire did not behave any worse than any other contemporary empire back in the day or indeed many of the independent states that sprung from the empire.

Frankly it is bizarre to say that the 'BE = Nazis' claim that you are putting forth is gospel truth.

Finally, we are probably the only people still reading these comments with any great interest. We are having a conversation and as such if I respond to your posting at least have the decency to engage and respond accordingly.

Simply posting youtube clips or the same article over and over again is not an example of your Wildian wit. You seem to be pretty eager not to be mistaken for a troll, so start acting in good faith cos who other than a troll would get something out of such useless posting?

The united Kingdom had absolutely no problem with slavery when it suited their interests. They used Chinese slave labor in Asia when it suited them and many Indian 'workers were slave in all but name. to As for African-Americans I think the post civill war apartheid increased their bitterness and prevented the burying of the past.

I don't disagree with anything you say, but I do wonder why you single out the UK/BE.

If your definition of slavery is to be as all encompassing as you suggest then Britain is but one of a myiad of past and contemporary slavers throughout human history.

My issue is not with the BE and the UK facing up to it's past evil, but rather with the singling out of the empire as if it was the worst or the only sinner.

The most perplexing thing is that if your broad definition of slavery is to be accepted then forget about the past, what about the present? Prisoners in the US and Indian labourers who are bonded and work for a pittance are but two examples out of many that demonstrate the pervasiveness of slavery in 2014.

In such a world the actions of an 18th/19th century empire can indeed be said to be evil, but also unremarkable. In fact in such a world the existence of a popular 18th/19th century abolitionist movement can be said to be nothing short of extraordinary.

Incidentally, the first rap in history? Though I think "When I Was a Lad" from Pinafore does a far better job of telling the story of the mucky-mucks and what their "qualifications" are.
