Well....ive had the misfortune of having my hard drive wiped out. My screen went black last nite. Its gone. Called the company, they are coming to pick up my baby tomorrow, at a replacement cost of 600, 000 won. Is this normal?
I was shocked.

bright news is....i won't be posting for a week, or very much anyways cause i don't have a computer. Crying or Very sad
Im miserable but many will be soooo happy.

And i don't need any posts like "why would you buy a sony?" because ive heard that before. I got a good deal, and im computerly enept thats why i purchased it.

600,000 is in the extreme's of replacement cost.

What does your warranty say and cover ? Is this outside warranty coverage ?

If it's only a bad hard drive you can replace the drive itself with a brand new one under that price. How large (in GigaBytes) is the drive ? Unless it's 80 GB or so I would be hard pressed to pay that money to replace the drive, unless they're replacing the entire system. It sort of depends on what is wrong.

If you don't want the drive to be setup just like a brand new one with all the bells and whistles that come with a proprietary system you can get a new drive (ASSUMING It's actually needing to be replaced), and install an OS from scratch ... but you admit lacking the skill

Come to Seoul and I can fix it and install whatever OS and whatever software you want ....

I'd ask more questions before shelling out 600 K ...

That sounds like a ridiculous price for a laptop HD replacement, even if it were an 80GB one.
80GB Laptop drive [Bear in mind these are Cdn prices.]

Even with service charges for installation and transfer of data it seems very excessive.

At 600,000 I'd find a geek who could do it cheap, or just put it on the shelf and go out and buy a desktop.

Taking work home? Making too many photocopies? Frequent trips to foreign countries or embassies?

How do you know the HD is dead? Could just be a virus, and you'd just need to start over from scratch and reformat your drive, load the OS, etc.

Sounds pretty easy to say, "uh, yeah.... we can fix it for $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$."

All without actually looking at it and seeing the real problem.

Heck, did it go bad while you were using it? Or after you turned it on or rebooted? Could be an accidentally changed bios setting. Sometimes that happens on its own for unexplained reasons if your board is not particularly stable.

Considering the OP, pun intended. You are getting screwed so bad theres a lineup.

Unless this is all under warranty call someone else. Why not take it to the base to get it fixed?

Than the price is not too bad. If its only the HD you were being robbed. Hope you get back on-line soon, I'll be lost without a daily dose of your avatars.

I got my Compaq HD replaced a few weeks ago. I am 99% sure that it is the HD that is gone, but I made them return my HD just to be on the safe side. Make sure that the company returns the parts the are replacing.
