some more advice would be:

Don't have picnics in parking bays (it looks daft)

Don't camp in public gazebos (they're not your private property)

Don't drink soju while attempting dangerous mountain climbs that require great focus (its potentially lethal)

Don't drink soju while hiking on sweltering hot summer days (Dehydration)

and most importantly....

Stop carrying your stupid radios everywhere and ruining the peace of the countryside!!!

Isn't camping in Korea for the most part just campground/campsite camping? Which originated from the US or UK iirc.

Why some of y'all seem to care so much how strangers spend their free time is mind boggling.

Look at them! They aren't camping the way I prefer to go camping! Let me run to the internet and complain about it.

This is kind of how I feel about riding English vs. Western, but I don't go screaming towards the internet to use it as an example of yet another cultural fail of Northeast America/England.

The topic of camping came up with my adult students recently and they told me that it is just a current fad that will probably die down soon.

What's with the wearing full Himalayan kit to go up a small mountain?

And while we're on the topic why do so many Korean just trow trash when they go hiking? You'd think that such a nationalist bunch of folk would actually care about the nature in their country.

Sitting next to a busy road eating a picnic, class!

I don't care if they want to have a picnic in a parking lot or wear Ed Hillary kit up Namsan, but the radio/smartphone in the mountain can be pretty irritating.

The last time I was in Busan, I was sitting alone on a granite outcrop on Geumjeongsan just above a small temple where a monk was chanting. The sun was shining and it was pretty much about as content as I've ever felt in Korea. Then wending through the woods came 5 young guys with a smartphone pumping out the latest K ballad goodness with its sweet 1cm speaker. Now, I accept they may prefer to listen to 0.25watts of emotional crooning distorting through their Galaxy than the sound of the mountain itself, but it did seem pretty weird. Damn kids...

I find it disturbing that many people are unable to enjoy nature or quietness.

They have to be accompanied by blasting music or they don't know what to do with themselves. Mindless.

I can agree with this. Koreans can't seem to be able to enjoy peace and serenity. What's the point of immersing yourself with nature if all you're going to is ultimately drink soju and blast k-pop/trot?

I often wondered what the response of the natives would be if I meandered along the mountain tracks blasting out my choice of music...

The music and the candy wrappers are the things that annoy me the most. It's not just the youngins, but also the older men that play that country music.

Where would they go camping to? There's crowds everywhere in Asia. They'd have to board a flight and get out of Asia for a truly authentic camping experience. Though I do miss the idea of having a wood fire instead of those portable gas cookers they use.

Yeah, the crowds in Siberia, Kamchatka, remote parts of China, Mongolia, Nepal and Bhutan must be terrible. Rolling Eyes
