Because as we all know, American culture is superior in many ways- you just need to go to any Kuntry that the USA has 'colonised' (here for example), and see the shining statistics (on suicide/happiness/suicide bombings/gap between rich and poor etc.) to see what a wonderful thing it is to be Americanised (sorry- did I spell that wrong?).
Oh, yeah, I almost forgot - lol... |
I didn't know America had colonised any countries. Maybe that's why you added inveretd commas. I think in some ways the world might be a safer place if they had. |
colonised/exploited/arse raped - however you want to put it, lol. Since there are people living everywhere now, we need a different word which Im not sure exists , or fits specifically with what the American governement does to places it wants to make money/use for a strategic position for it's military bases.
The bit I put in bold that you wrote, I can only assume in good nature, that you are of course joking?
Maybe the general idea was that if they make everyone obese and obsessed with shiny things, theyll stop killing each other? |
You saying Koreans were better off in 1920 or 1951 when they were starving or crapping in dull colored pots called honey jars that they left outside their door to be picked up every morning? |
Im saying there are 2 sides to each cirlce shaped object and when I see the 'crap' as you say left behind in their wake - I think about the two sides and wether or not they were really worth it. |

The side the U.S. has supported and the side China has supported. |

Wherever you go, how you feel is partly governed by your own perception of life and I've come to the conclusion that wherever you go, people suck.
It's only a minority that are pleasant to be around. |
This is the conclusion I've come to in the past decade.
I generally do not like people. I'm not talking about individuals, per-se, but generally speaking. As I reach middle age, it's like something happened to me where my bullshit meter got really sensitive and I just got intolerant of idiots and assholes.
I don't care if they're Canadians, Americans, Australians, British, Thais or Japanese - I just don't seem to like anyone or anything.
Does anyone else also have this problem? |
I have the exact same problem. It kicked in around the age of 40. |
I also have this exact same problem which kicked in around now (40). Maybe we should get to together and try very tentatively to be freinds?
Btw, Im very reliieved to hear at least two other folk are going through this, I thought it was just me and my mate, Mr Hand. |
The irony is, I have a job that involves putting myself out there in front of people several times a week. However, in my 20s and early 30s I didn't really hate people as much as I do now, although I never really truly liked them.
Teaching, I would say, is even mostly enjoyable. As long as I don't have to do any sales or promoting the school too much and if I don't have to interact closely with colleagues I don't mind my job. Right now I'm basically my own boss. And I like it that way.
I could not go back to a corporate environment and the micro-management that comes along with those kinds of jobs. I'd be a suicide.
Yet, even though I hate people, I'd rather live in a big city like Seoul or Tokyo than be totally isolated way out in the sticks.
Also, watching people in a big city can be enjoyable. Grabbing a coffee or beer and just watching millions of people walk through Shinjuku Station or riding their bicycles through Amsterdam can be entertaining.
It's just interacting with people too much and watching their assholery that irritates me. |

Well, you know what people will say. If you can't like other people it's probably because you never managed to find a way to like yourself. FromtheUk actually admitted this is true for him. |

Not really. If they'd been more thorough in establishing their own regimes in countries like Iraq and Iran over the years, they'd probably be less troublesome now. |

My spell checker (only on this site) says that every single word is spelled incorrectly |

Italy - Nice cultural things to experience, emotional people who are good at expressing said emotions. Usually seemed like a good trait. Friendly people but you have to be aware of pickpocketers if you're on vacation
France - The time I went there on a school ski trip, they seemed prejudiced against people who couldn't speak French. However, I heard things have changed now. I liked the lunch culture, how people really took the time to enjoy what seemed like an eternal lunch hour
England - Gentleman's country, hard to get a gf if you're asian XD Nice people, although not as outwardly friendly as Americans
US - Friendly people mostly, high standard of living, beautiful countryside and beaches, good food, fun culture to experience
New Zealand - Lots of racism, although they will not blatantly show it. it's more of a hidden thing (kind of like prejudism in work places etc...) people absolutely LOVE to stare, but I think that's just their culture.
Laos - Friendly, laid back place to live. Great food, and even though it's a communist country, it's quite safe.
Africa - Obviously everything is different here, but overall a decent place to live if you have the funds. Friendly natives, as long as you don't run into the militia groups lol
Norway - Cold as hell, very nice people. Kind of like the Irvine of Scandinavia, everyone is honest and considerate
Korea - Wow.. what can I say.... Too high % of the population without any basic manners, crazy driving, as in the worst place to drive out of the countries I've visited / lived. Bad pollution in Seoul, where 40% of the nation's population is squashed into. Horrible working hours in Korean companies, high cost of living, and I hate how people f*ck around with your food at the 'cheaper' restaurants. You probably have seen TV shows uncovering some of the nasty things restaurant owners do to save costs. High rate of sexual predators, and one of the highest stress rates in any of the OECD countries. High suicide rate, and high alcoholism rate. I'm not being prejudiced here, just pointing out the facts from studies. Needless to say I'll be going back overseas, since it's obvious I'm not having a good time here.
Vietnam - The food.... OMG how delish! And cheap as hell too. I was a bit worried when I went there on a biz trip due to being a communist country, but found that it was a laid back place. Lots of motorcycles, but at least they didn't do any "rash" driving like here in Korea.
Thailand - I love this country. Friendly people, good food, laid back atmosphere, beautiful beaches, warm weather, etc.... Just be careful if you're a tourist and want to rent a motorcycle or car, I've heard some horror stories (although no personal stories of my own). I also love the culture here, they are really really friendly to you if you're asian
Australia - Fun friendly people, what a nice place to visit. Perfect country to live in, IMO. Great everything, except for the crazy rent prices in some of the larger cities. FYI Sydney had the highest average rent prices (#1) in the world last year, so yeah.. expect to pay around $7-800 AUS per WEEK for a tiny 1 bedroom. I'd still love to live here.
Singapore - Another country I would love to live. Friendly folks, nice clean city, but sometimes a bit congested on the subway etc... $80000 USD to get the driver's license... so yeah good luck if you want to drive there LOL... Other than that it's a beautiful, safe country to live in, but #2 on my choice as AUS has more places to visit, larger etc... |

England - London - Rude people, crazy expensive... The most unattractive wealthy people I have ever seen. Terrible food, crap weather, boring museums. That being said, I have meet so many wonderful British people overseas that I would like to visit another area in the UK maybe it will be different.
France - Beautiful country, impressive architecture, beautiful people, great food. Paris is much quieter than London. kick-ass trains!
Germany - Amazingly friendly pretty people, surprisingly great food, nice cars...
Italy - Dirtier than northern and western Europe... Better Italian food in NY... Overcharged everywhere for being an American. Venice was still amazing and the people were very beautiful.
Czech - Not friendly but not rude just indifferent to you. Attractive people, good food, cheap beer.
Netherlands - Friendly people, very friendly people but not the most attractive bunch. so-so food |

From the sheer ignorance of your post, I highly doubt you have ever done more than a couple hours layover in an airport in "Africa" (which fyi is not a country but a continent, comprising 54 nation states). |

No. I don't know how much a license costs, but the extremely high price he is referring to is the permission to buy a car. |

Aha... that makes sense, considering the traffic was pretty light for a city of 5 million-ish. Government created barrier to entry. |

It's a shame Americans are not to your liking. While other economies are showing serious cracks, the US economy seems to be strengthening. Once again it looks like America is the future, like it or not. |
