I doubt very much that people are "pretending to hate Korean TV." Why would they pretend to hate it? To be cool? That makes absolutely no sense son. You can be 100% sure that I'm not pretending when I say that I loathe Korean tv. It's a dreadful phenomenon. It's all the annoying things about Korea on steroids.

To each his own, but it's no worse than American TV in my opinion. Every drama in America is a crime/detective show and American comedy has devolved into nothing. (SNL)
Now, I'm not saying that all Korean TV is good because there are crap programs, but not all of it is bad. I just feel like people on this forum just like to jump on the bandwagon and say "Oh yea! I hate Korean TV, too because I wanna be cool!"
The reason I bring up the fact about not understanding it makes you not like it is because I used to feel that way too. I couldn't stand or understand why they needed to replay scenes over and over again until I was able to understand the words and content. After that, I actually appreciate the replays because I either missed what happened or I wanted to see that again. So, when people call that out and say they hate that, I'm calling them out and saying they don't even understand the program.
That's just my 2 cents or more. |

Even if posters don't know Korean, they can't do subtitles well on most of these shows because everybody is talking at the same time. |

1 cent: The Turkish guy is a total hypocrite. He always harped on how important it was to do the right thing and live righteously according to my Korean friends (I never watched the program so I don't know), yet he turns around and is having multiple affairs. If this is an accurate depiction of the guy, I have less than zero sympathy.
He tried to play by the Korean rules, and he will get burned by those same Korean rules.
Additionally, Korean TV is a total copy of Japanese TV. They didn't try to do one single innovative thing. All the talking celebrity shows, the special effects, the music, etc, all purely stolen from Japan. One again Korea fails to show any kind of creative capability. |

Most of the time it's the concept you don't like not what they actually say. If someone told me there was a random bunch of guys who happened to speak English talking about their cultures on TV in my country I wouldn't watch that either. I've never watched a single episode of the Kardashians or Jersey Shore but I'd be quite happy to use them as an example of bad American TV
My wife watches 'Apo Odigayo' Do I really have to understand every word the Korean celebrities and their bratty kids are saying before I'm allowed to say it's crap? I just know. |

I don't understand the Teletubbies. Still hate the show.
Anyway, it's subjective, but a lot of the shows here arguably get worse the more you understand them. This was particularly true of the "comedy".
And yes, it's a stylistic ripoff of Japanese TV, minus the "bizarreness" the Japanese are known for.
Hey, if you like it, no problem, but don't try to flip it like WE are the ones with the problem here.  |

But the point is it's not uncommon in every country. Not ideal situation but it happens. Why do people get in such a tizz about celebrities doing it? |

I agree cheating can happen everywhere, but it is more accepted and more common in some countries than in others. Judging from the accessibility to prostitution, and the general attitude about it of many Korean men (and women too sometimes), cheating is very rampant here. Hence the hypocritical nature of the attacks towards the Turk. But he's a celebrity, and a foreign one, so judgement will be harsher. |

But Central Cali is right, and I was wrong in assuming all men are dogs no matter what the culture. The truth is that there are amazing, sensitive, intelligent guys out there that don't cheat on their wives. Sometimes I go too far, this is one of them. |
