Okay. What if I just simply do not like children? Forget the environment, overpopulation, etc. arguments. But What if I really think that kids are dirt bags and I don't want anything to do with them? I don't like the sound of them, I don't like the attention they require and I don't want to fawn over them.
Actually, when someone I know or a friend starts to tell me how cute his / her kid is, I just tune out. It disgusts me. I have nothing for that.
I really hate kids. |

Not only would I not force someone to consider children, but I would discourage anyone who hates kids from having children.
I'm defending the idea of having children for those of us who do have children. Its actually a fundamental right to have children, just as it is a fundamental right to exercise the power of abortion over one's own body. |

No, nevermind the environment, because you're indulging in a false choice: children or the environment. Two or three more children won't break the world, anyway, so on a level of personal choice, its irrelevant. Nonetheless, two or three children, or even one, could change one's life. Children are emphatically more than mouths to feed. |
wrong. since most people don't like science, here's a fun comedic bit that is laced with bitter truth.

You can choose children and the environment. I am sorry you lack the imagination to understand how one can undertake both commitments. |
and i'm sorry you lack the intelligence to understand that you are wrong.
you can rationalize having progeny all you want because one would assume you have had one or more by your statements, but as it stands in the current state of the world, having children, even one, is disastrous for the environment. i don't care how much they make you have the feels and what have you.
i'll link the fun and comedic video for you again. he spells it out pretty well for those who aren't keen on science.

Maybe the kid will grow up to make an invention (or help enact/enforce legislation) that will help the environment.
In the U.S., air quality has been improving, even as the population grows.
It's not all doom and gloom.
There are good things happening out there as well. |

you seem quite confused lad. there's a huge difference between ceasing the human race and controlling a population growth that is spirally wildly out of control just because people want to have children out of their own narcissism, ignorance and/or wanting the feels and because capitalism screams for larger unsustainable "growth".
since you have a hard time understanding humour, let me give you a article with some cold hard facts.

you seem to be yet another parent who's all butt-hurt over the truth. you should do research before talking so you don't look so clueless. |

you should probably stay away from lottery tickets if this is your mentality wt.
sure said kid could grow up to do just what you said, but the odds are absolutely and unfathomably against the creation of this prodigal child.
add to that the masses that don't achieve this miracle of science due to your logic that having kids hoping for a golden egg is the way to go will help destroy the planet at an exponential rate. |

I'm really glad you've arrived to this thread because you'll persuade people to the position I'm advocating faster than I ever could.
Your condescension towards parents is priceless, by the way. |

i'm really glad the ground you stand on is based on your desire to protect your sensitive feelings and decision making (or lack thereof) skills because you advocate my position faster than i ever could.
and don't misunderstand, i'm not condescending towards all parents. i'm condescending towards parents like you who don't understand or care about their actions. one child per family is more than sustainable, but those who have children willy nilly without care are just one of the many problems in this world and the parents like you who get all up in arms at anyone who says that the holy foundation of the family could actually (gasp) be a problem are sad.
i also think it's rather funny that all the parents have chosen to ignore doug stanhope's very spot-on clip. how convenient. |

Its true. I hold my feelings for my child higher than Doug Stanhope's quip.
Are you for real? You came into the thread with no science and have pitched Doug Stanhope's clip twice. I do not believe you are real. You are getting paid a couple of bucks to promote Doug Stanhope. You're doing a great job at that, and at bolstering my argument.
Welcome to the thread! |

no science? as i stated i chose that comedy bit because people like you don't tend to enjoy or relate to science all too well. and had you been paying attention (lol), i also already linked another science-based link and honestly, it's not my job to teach ignorant people. you need to do your own homework champ, i'm not about to do it for you. use google. you may find it very enlightening.
start paying attention and if you want to be a bleeding heart feel free to do so but don't make a rather pathetic attempt at an argument then slink off with a "i hold my feelings for my child higher than logic" ending. that's just weak and laughable.
and just because you know that clip is true and you are offended by it because you are one of the people that he's ragging on doesn't mean i'm a promoter for this comedian. try to think of something smarter than that if you want to try and make a comeback (hint: you have no ground to stand on for a comback, just give up) |

You posted an op-ed. "Science-based."
