At his age, when I was 12, I had a part-time job helping out at my uncle's business. In high school, I routinely worked 2 part-time jobs. During these times, I did chores around home, bought my own clothes and provided my own spending money as well as went to school and studied.
By the age of 18, I was out on my own and fully independent, cooking my own meals, doing my own laundry, etc,. I had the old car I had bought in high school. I lived in a small studio apartment on my own. I had a full-time job. I was taking 4 classes at university my first semester while holding down work and life. I completed university, a BA with a 3.86, in four years. Later, I punched in a few classes along and completed my MA. I worked my rear off.
Kids all over the world are starving or have little chance of getting an education. Yet, these Little Korean Emporers are complaining about having to study. Notice, he has time to pop up a video in his nice and tidy little bedroom.

I see what you're trying to say but I honestly don't think that all of the students that end up attending the SKY universities are from well-off families... in fact, I know many students on scholarships or with parents who have have had to sacrifice in order to pay the tuition fees. Even the poor families are still making sacrifices so that their kids can attend some type of summer camp or after school hagwon.
You tell a story of how hard you worked but at this point it's irrelevant unless you did this within the Korean education/social structure. I mean, I'm sure many of us on here have similar tales to tell of how hard we worked to get to where we are in life today and for many it still may not be the ideal place (I think the majority of us ended up in Korea by design and in some cases out of necessity).
Almost all of the Koreans I have spoken to on the subject, know that the system is flawed in some way but obviously a foreigner telling Koreans what they already know is probably very infuriating - I guess it's kinda like me going to Boston and 2014 and telling the locals the Red Sox are terrible... even if it's true, hearing it from some random guy from London will not go down very well.
So my thinking is that if this type of video can inspire other students to be more open/outspoken, who knows... maybe in 15yrs time when our generation (I'm in my 30's) has more political power and these 15yr olds are joining the workforce and starting families they could be the start of a nationwide policy changes, hey if this was blogged and went viral with Korean subs, it could be the start of s'thing - who knows. |

Wow, you flatter me. I didn't realize anyone was paying attention.
But comparing that kid to sr just isn't fair to the kid. sr is old enough to know better. The kid, like you, still has some learning to do. |
