I think the main questions at this point are what SONY and the U.S. can/will do in response to NK actions, threats, bluffs, etc...
|
Sony will almost certainly refrain from making any more anti-NK movies.
As for the US, I dunno. They might freeze a few North Korean assets in some offshore account somewhere. Maybe launch some kind of low-level cyber-attack against something or other.
Possibly, Obama will make a few laudatory remarks about the Hong Kong democracy movement(or whatever flavor-of-the-month), just as a hint to the Chinese that they should have a little chat with their man in Pyeongyang.
Overall, I don't think you'll see any long-term repercussions from this. In fact, I think the reason it's gotten the kind of attention it has is that it involves Hollywood, and thus ties into celebrity culture, making it a more media-friendly story.
If it had been the British Musem getting hacked by North Korea, I doubt it would stay in the world media for more than a day. |

They should have refrained from making this one. Watch the trailer, it looks idiotic. I'm pretty sure if NK hadn't given it such publicity the movie would have died a quick death and been quickly forgotten. Thanks to Pyeongyang, it has been given far more publicity than it would otherwise deserve.
It got a low rating of 52% on Rotten Tomatoes. Yet a whopping 96% of people asked said they wanted to see it. |

Banning the movie and having NK throw fits about it was the best press the movie ever could have gotten. Doesn't matter how bad the movie actually is, controversy sells. |
