I'm from the U.S. and my husband is from England. We met and got married here in Korea. We've been married now for over 2 years and are thinking about moving to the U.S. However, we're not sure if we should get a K-3 or a IR1 visa. Any advice on the matter would be great. I'm also interested in hearing how long the visa process took and whether or not you had to provide proof of income. Many thanks. |

The k-3 is virtually impossible to get. The IR1 is what you'll have to do.
I strongly recommend visiting the website visajourney.com to get some good info on getting an immigration visa for the US.
All immigrant visas require an I-134. If you don't have sufficient US income, you need a co-sponsor or other assets in the usa (such as savings, investments, etc). |

You can't get the K 1 since you have been married over two years.
If you have a job in the US with your own address you can get the visa faster.
The government prefers you to have a job in the US.
And they prefer you to go to the US first.
I was told don't bother until you are moving to the US within six months.
They don't want your spouse on welfare so that is why you need about 20,000 dollars per year (federal poverty guidlines). |
