I see no problem here.
A) Koreans open to relationships with foreigners will not go there.
B) Koreans that might be hostile to foreigners will go there.
C) I have no need to go there
Seems like it winnows out some problems & the focus of our efforts can be diverted more profitably elsewhere.
Yeah and I don't see any problem with bars that ban black people either.
A) Koreans open to drinking in the same place as black people will not go there
B) Koreans that might be hostile to black people will go there
C) I have no need to go there
etc.. etc..

So you admit your comment was ill-thought-out and fatuous? |

Korean men not liking foreigners dating Korean women... and Korean bars banning foreigners... is connected, therefore it is not the "exact same thing" as back home. Not at all. Anyone using the "exact same thing as back home" line is usually over simplifying things or trying to minimize something.
Unless by the statement: "Korean men not liking foreigners dating Korean women = exact same thing happens back home" ... you just meant that even back home, Korean men / gyopos STILL don't like "foreigners" aka non-Koreans, dating Korean women. In which case, you could be right about that. |

Way to make a point.
Care to dispute any of it, or are you just speechless with the truthiness of it?
I'll say, as someone who has dated Korean women here and back home, and gone out quite a bit in both places, my experience and perspective may be different from yours. But it is definitely NOT the "exact same as back home".
Looking decent and walking into a bar as one of the only foreigners can raise some hackles sometimes. If you look below average, you aren't perceived as any competition for them and may have a much different experience.
On the whole, there aren't many problems with going out here, but sometimes there are, bans being one of them. |

His Canada "back home" doesn't represent anything other than just that. |

According to the owner, too many foreign males carry drugs and weapons, start fights, and harass female customers. Male ESL teachers cause the most trouble. |
So what? Don't go there.
This is a drop of spit in a pool of discrimination globally. Fodder for the selfrightous idiots to bark at until some other proverbial squirrel of an issue grabs their attention, and their 60 seconds of compassion. |

Why would you possibly think it was ok to exclude people based on their ethnicity?
Why is it that Korea seems to attract closet right wing-ers and ultra conservatives? Because I can't see any other reason for thinking race exclusion is 'ok.' |

There are different ways of excluding customers ; some are downright racist, others are not -- for example, we all know places back home that won't accept people if they don't match 'the image' or profile of the establishment -- for example, if customers want to get into a very expensive or very hip place and they are wearing cheap trainers, or a hoodie, or dirty work clothes.
That is likely to be uncomfortable and embarrassing for the person trying to get in -- but it's understandable...the owner of the bar has the right to maintain the 'mood' or clientele he wants, if he's image conscious, and his establishment has a reputation for its image, and generates income from such, or if he wants to avoid customers who won't spend money.
But -- to exclude people on racial grounds and skin colour, irrespective of their clothing, spending power or behaviour....that's different.
And that seems to be the case here -- |

To me the bars or nightclubs issue is mostly irrelevant. Koreans open to meeting foreigners will simply not go to such places. There are millions of women out there you can meet anywhere.
The bigger issue is the whole slanted system in this country. Foreign men are sidelined and discriminated against 24-7/365. That is where the aggression, frustration and fights come from. The media lies about and demonizes them, bosses fire or refuse to hire them; in legal matters they are disadvantaged. I've never encountered a country where the local males are this scared of competition from foreign men. |

I agree with the above poster.
particularly hard to take is descrimination when going for job opportunities.
for the first time in my life i can relate to victims of descrimination.
Its hard being a lonely and horny foreigner. |

I don't think that foreign males are really discriminated against outside of the EFL realm. Foreign males predominate amongst both DDD workers and highly skilled expats. |

You never seen any articles in the papers about how foreign guys are degenerate drug-takers? You've never saw any documentaries about why to beware of scary foreign guys? You never had Koreans make disparaging comments about your wife? You've never been pushed out of a job just to make way for a woman?
Either you're the most unobservant person in Korea or you've lived in a bubble for the past ten years. |

And herein lies my point: if you think that women are ahead in the game professionally in any industry in Korea outside of EFL, you need to get your head examined. Even the documentaries on scary foreign dudes tend to focus somewhat explicitly on English teachers. The next time I see any of this stuff directed at engineers and MBAs will be the first. |

There's so few of them. That would be like Americans complaining of Dutch immigration. |

That doesn't take away from my point that there's some serious myopia in play here. |
