The gripe is from:
1. Frequent flyer "elites" who bitch about their benefits getting cut or harder to obtain. Of course they conveniently omit that airlines such as Singapore have a much higher bar for one to become "elite" than the American airlines do. Just go over to the flyertalk.com forum and it is whine central.
2. Nostalgia that flying used to be more comfortable and better. Even if that is true, as you mentioned, it is really cheap. I pay as much for airline tickets now as I did 10-15 years ago. I just flew IAD-SFO roundtrip for $325. Granted, it was a sale price, but the most I think I've ever paid for that flight is $550, and that was a) a flight around Christmas b) bought semi-last minute.
3. Those who live in 2nd tier* cities such as Pittsburgh, Kansas City, St. Louis, etc. who tend to pay more than those of us who live in hub cities.
*2nd tier meaning in size primarily. |
