Last time I said the pledge was when I also had to do a duck and cover and went to bed worried that the Soviets were going to nuke us all. Then suddenly it was Rodney King and Ross Perot and a bunch of nothing.

I'm pretty sure I pledged allegiance to flags fewer than 10 times. Most of the pledges happened when a buddy invited me to Vacation Bible School. That church pledged allegiance to the American flag, the Christian flag, and the Bible. I think it's mostly a church thing.

There are many good people in the U.S., both in government and in the general civilian population.

America in 2015 is a great country, one of the best to have ever existed.

It starts at the top. The American president bashes the US every chance he get and goes on an apology tour to let the world know.

Every chance he gets? Really? Is that your final answer or would you like to call a friend? Presidents who bash their country every chance they get don't get reelected. Turn.off.Fox.news.now!

Yeah much better than the opposition party screwing over the nation just to make the president look bad. And then asking the people to vote for them in the next election. They're like 'We're only doing that because he's a democrat. If you elect me, I promise not to do it anymore.'

You can't even make this $hit up!!!!

Called the Grand Canyon Escalade, the developers refer to the project as a “tourism destination development” that will include shopping, an IMAX theater, multiple hotels, and an RV park. It’s all centered around a Gondola Tramway, designed to take travelers “from the rim of the Grand Canyon to an elevated Riverwalk on the Canyon floor.”

The U.S. government proposed (threw out the possibility/threat of) deporting a criminal but didn't.

A corporation proposed building a mall on the east rim of the Grand Canyon. (It wasn't built.)

Therefore, the United States is bad. It is a horrible country. Rolling Eyes

WT (assuming you don't mean travelling the 'world' as being all 50 states and territories of the best country EVER, especially in 2015),

Past tense is used when actions are finished, no longer have relevancy.

Quote:
Crapser's next court date is June 18, 2015 . If his supporters and attorneys do not prevail, his "odyssey" may turn into a major travesty of injustice for him and the family he has created. He served his time for his offenses and rehabilitated his life. He is a threat to no one and a contributing citizen as well as a father with a family who depends on him. Deportation would be cruel and inhumane to him, his wife, and his children.

Shelly is expected to sign a proposed resolution authorizing the project, and developers hope to break ground as early as the spring of 2017, but local tribal members say they will not relent. Leaders like Yellowhorse and Kuwanwisiwma have established a group called "Save the Confluence" and are spreading their message with stickers and painted signs across the Navajo reservation.

Maybe you meant to use present perfect, you know the tense that implies something STILL has relevancy NOW, in the PRESENT, even though it started in the past?

"He hasn't been deported YET", "They haven't started building YET".

Sub-standard primary education is another great hallmark of today's Greatest Country on Earth.

I hope you're not teaching here anymore. I hear they always need edumecators in Mississippi and Arkansas.

Something bad might happen, therefore the U.S. sucks (now)?

No, something bad might happen, therefore there is the possibility the U.S. might suck (in the future).

Nice try with the America bashing but it's still not inferior to most other countries on earth (including Korea).

Sorry, dude. I be Canadian, but I really gotta say you're quite wrong.

"I haven't played hockey for a while, but I'll still kick your a$$." does NOT mean I'm playing now. Present perfect means at least once in the past and MAY continue into the future. Kudos to my american relatives and friends and canadians! One more time..Present perfect is HAVE/HAS + PP.

The Russians want the Ukraine and they could just as easily want the country Thrylos is from unless of course............... Same with China. Sounds awful trite but its a fact and all these smaller countries know that. Without the USA it would be "Power to the people" or "Let a thousand flowers bloom. So trite but so true.

I haven't been on this site in years.

However, now that I'm back, I'm happy to see that there are still at least a few deeply idiotic posts left by supposedly educated people which bash some staggeringly complex population of tens/hundreds of millions over a couple of random negative new stories.

It gives me a sense of continuity in my old age.

So as it stands i generally have a Canadian ban because of their inane prattle. It is not hypernationalism it is an inferiority complex concerning their standing against the U.S. It baffles me. Why not compare with Germany, or Russia, or Tahiti. No one enjoying a pint of beer needs to be subjected to an attack/diatiribe about healthcare, or the war of 1812. No other nationality does this.

I think it is Canadian politicians who point to the U.S. to hide their own shortcomings perhaps.

Nah. Don't deport him. (He stole cars, etc., but that is in his past.) Just let him know if he screws up again that might happen (even though it realistically won't). Scared straight and all that. Well played by the U.S. government.
