So, I am in a bit of a dilemma.

Basically, I want to visit Japan the moment I step in Korea. I have a really good friend in Japan that I want to meet up with, and she's off on holiday between August 10 -15. My plan is to take peachair to Japan.

But I will probably be arriving in Korea on the 10th as well. I will ask authorities on this issue at some point, but I wanted to see if anyone had information here.

Is that possible to do? I mean, the same day I enter Korea on a work visa, I leave for Japan? Is this allowed? I am a Canadian citizen so I have a visa exemption. But is there anything on the Korean side stopping me?

AFAIK you can come and go as many times as you please. Re-entry permits are no longer required if you hold a valid ARC. But if you're skipping work, that's not good, mmk?

Ttompatz will be along soon to answer all your questions - please take a number.

AS a CANADIAN with a single entry E2:

If you have an ARC it is a non-issue (you can enter and leave as often as you want). From the sounds of your post this is NOT the case.

If you enter Korea (go through passport control) with a NEW E2 in your passport it will be activated on arrival. A tourist entry is NOT possible if you have a valid visa in your passport.

If you ENTER Kroea (go through passport control) then leave (take a trip to Japan as an example) before you get your ARC your E2 will be canceled and you need to begin the E2 application process again from scratch.

IF you have a new E2 then your ONLY option is to fly to Korea and NOT enter the country (do not go through passport control into into Korea).

You can transit at ICN (go through the transit gate) and go directly to Japan without entering (going through Korean passport control) and activating your E2 PROVIDED the flights are within 24 hours of each other.

When you return to Korea you then "Enter" and activate your E2.

No, don't leave. When you apply to work in any country you can't immediately leave until you have your residence card i.e. what we call alien card in Korea.

I advise against it. You'll go to Japan, see how much better it is than Korea, then upon your return to Korea it will be even worse than it usually is (and Korea is pretty awful as is). Enjoy your flight!
