Just a few quick questions that I hope someone can help with.
I'm moving from Gyeonggi-do back to Seoul in Mid-June, after a 4 year absence. As a result, I'll have to change immigration offices to reigster my new address. Is it necessary to go in person and change the address at the immigration office in Mok-dong? Or, is it possible to change it at the local gu-office? I do not want to risk a fine and I'm looking to hear from someone who has completed the process recently.
Thanks in advance for any help that can be offered. |

You can do it at the local dong office.
Be sure to take a copy of your housing contract with you. |

Only Koreans can change their address at the dong office. Foreigners must do it at the immigration office or the Gu office. |

I've heard differently, as I reported my change of address to the city hall of my city. |

City hall is a viable option (at least in smaller cities) for a foreigner registering a new address, but a dong office is not. |

Well, the city hall is above the Gu office so naturally what you can do at the latter is also available at the former. |

Did it recently in Seoul. Just remember that the northern 8 -gus will use the office at Jongjak station instead of Mok-dong.
I would recommend immigration. F-6 (not sure about E visa) visas CAN change it at the local -gu office, but it is a complete and royal pain in the ass.
I just went in last week to make the change and was in there for over an hour and a half with various desk clerks and their respective mangers. They were on the phone with immigration at least three different times, finally got the registration done and still sheepishly told me that I should probably go check at immigration just to 'make sure'.
Went to immigration two days later, found out that the change they made wasn't registered and was in and out in less than 20 minutes. (Make an appointment) |

Moved in 2014. Registered my address change at the local Gu office. All done and dusted I thought. Renewing my visa in early 2015, but immigration officer wanted a copy my housing contract. She said she knew I registered my move, but I still needed to provide immigration a copy of my housing contract, even though the Gu registered the change. It's bureaucracy, plain and simple. Returned to immigration with housing contract, and all good. |

I've never been asked for a housing contract. Guess it depends upon the officer you meet.
That said, they have asked to see my degrees 8 times now. |

Usually a bill with your name, and address, on it should suffice. |

At the main immigration office, do they make a copy of your lease or your proof of address? Is it weird to let them make a copy of your lease?? |

They sometimes ask for the housing contract. Bring it just in case and go to the Dong-gu office. That's what I did.
I hope you enjoy the move, bud. |

I just did it at the Mokdong branch. They asked for my passport, ARC, and housing contract. Only took five minutes. |

Dong-office is easiest. Just take the ARC and contract... |
