So Windows 10 is now out, Internet Explorer is no longer the default browser anymore. Who's tried it so far?

Non-techie here!

How difficult is it to install? Do I need to back up stuff to be safe?

It installs like any other Windows update, and after installing it it even remembered that I was 14 minutes through a video in Chrome and restarted it from there. Files, language settings, everything was exactly the same.

It also puts Windows 8.1 into a folder in case you want to revert to it, and you have 30 days to do that if you decide you want to go back.

^^Thanks, but I just read this article from CNet that says it's better to do a "clean install", or otherwise performance will be "adversely affected".

Three ways to install a clean version of Windows 10 onto any PC.

Edge is the default browser now and it doesn't support ActiveX, but if you go to a site that needs it it will still prompt you to use IE:

So IE is dead but can still be resurrected at a moment's notice.

Before seeing this, it still wasn't entirely clear to me what I would gain by upgrading to Windows 10 from 7 (I don't care about Directx 12), but if this were true, the matter is more or less settled. Even if I'm going to purchase something, I like being able to download a torrent version of it first and make sure it works well for me. For example, I wanted to download Planescape:
