I've been working at a hagwon in Korea since September 2014, and I just extended my contract for another year. I was thinking about the possibility of getting a job in public school next September 2016. Is it possible to do this without having to return to my home country (USA) to re-do the documents (CBC, etc)? Thanks for the info!

There may be more cutbacks in public school jobs. Look for another 10% drop in available jobs by Sept. 2016.

That's not my question, but I appreciate the information anyway!

My understanding is that it is possible to switch from a hagwon job to a public school job without having to return home for a CBC, etc. Perhaps someone else will chime in and give more details.

It depends on the organization you are getting a job with. I know that SMOE require new documents regardless of your situation. Other public schools may be the same way. For the most part you can get it done while in Korea, but you need someone in your home country to do it.

Its certainly possible without a return home, but new docs might still be required. Lots of threads about arranging that from here.

A september switch-over isnt optimal as public school starts in august, but late intakes do happen. Limits your options though.

If it's your first job in Korea, you have to be in your home country, otherwise I don't think it's a problem.

Thanks for the advice! I briefly read a thread about this a month ago but I couldn't find it again. That's really helpful!

IF you are on an E2 in Korea then it is certainly possible to switch to a public school position BUT it WILL require that you present a new set of documents* to do it regardless of your current status in Korea.

This is an employer requirement and they usually won't wiggle or give any leeway on it.
Get a new set when you are ready to move or don't get a PS job. Those are effectively your 2 options.

*documents - new CBC with apostille (less than 6 months old at the time of your application) and certified true copy of your degree with apostille affixed.
