I understand that Korea wants to restrict what young people are exposed to in a well-meaning way of protecting the innocence of youth, but why do it so badly and inconsistently?

Western movies have expletives blanked (the movie goes silent for the duration of the word) which ruins the flow of the sentnce being uttered. In the past they would just soften the Korean translation. Expletives in korean movies are left in. In The UK, movies that may contain this content is shown after 9pm to make sure inncocent ears and eyes stay innocent.

Knifes and blades are blurred so the viewer cannot make out the shape too well, and all wounds caused by the blades are blurred, yet in Korea beard dramas (historical types) the blades go un-blurred as do the wounds inflicted. What's the difference?

Nudity is blurred. This is not on all channels, but when they do it is more biassed by gender than ethnicity. When it comes to female nudity, only the genitalia are off limits, breasts and bums can be shown, yet if a man bares his rear, it is usually blurred. Sometimes in the same scene, the woman's parts are flaunted but the man's are hidden.

I understand the need for censorship at certain times of the day, but can they not get a better editor to do it? It is more akin to butchery. Take Game of Thrones, this is a show that is full of everything that Korea doesn't like so they edit it. They edit it in the most ham-fisted way possible. Blur this, blank that and cut the third bit altogether. I remember seeing one episode where so much was cut it made no sense (Arya in the tavern with the hound). One minute she was eyeing a guy to kill, the next minute she is standing over 3 dead bodies, and the (2 minutes of action and dialogue) are translated to 1 line of Korean text. Fast forward 9 months and in the run up to the series 5, they played series 4 back to back on a Saturday afternoon. Even with all the bastardisation the editors do this isn't suitable for this time of day.

Korea, either learn to edit properly, how to schedule or don't bother buying these shows!

Korea isn't Hollywood. It's still working on the Mastered art of plagiarism. Give it another 25 years and it will do a better job of editing. Even Korean movies and TV are pitiful.

The students know more English "dirty words" than I do. I didn't have an uncensored cellphone dictionary when I was in elementary school. The tv/movie nudity is redundant thanks to the internet. If you don't believe that, you probably read Playboy just for the articles.

I caught the end of Mad Max 2 on TV last night and it was hilarious how much they censored out, particularly around the final chase scene. I mean they censored out the ass of the dude with his ass hanging out jumping around. Two people got pulled off of the rig and they censored that. A car rammed the back of the rig, crushing two people who were tied up, and that gets censored, too.

The language censoring is interesting, because they don't catch everything, so something that is fairly innocuous will get scrubbed out, but then the hero will be like "You mother****er" and it's left to be heard in all its glory. Makes zero sense.

I remember, when Prometheus was in theaters, I rented Alien to watch with the girlfriend so she could have some idea of what to expect. It's a DVD, so surely it will come with all the blood and such, right? Nah, it was hacked to hell.

I watched Love Actually for the first time in a Korean theater. When I downloaded it a few years later, there was a whole relationship which I don't remember from the Korean version. The relationship is about two porn starts falling in love, the man being Martin Freeman (Dr. Watson in the BBC Sherlock Holmes).

The Korean version of Michael Mann's Heat also doesn't have the story of the black get away driver that recently got out of prison and is working in a diner.

My favorite example: Watching the movie 'Traffic'. They blurred the characters smoking a cigarette, then fully show the teenage characters doing lines of coke and shooting heroin.

And the TV ratings are amusing. 'Breaking Bad' is rated 12 years or older, but 짱구 , the cartoon, has a rating of 15.
