|
|
My boyfriend and I are hoping to teach in Korea starting this August. We are shooting for Seoul and both have teaching degrees and experience, but we know it's competitive so we are open to other locations as well, though we're hoping to stick to urban areas.
I just wanted to know if anyone knows how hard it is to find big gyms in smaller cities in Korea? When we were in Seoul on vacation this summer we found BodyStar, which was perfect. However, in Busan we had trouble and could only find smaller gyms aimed at crossfit or cardio, which to my understanding is more the norm for Korean gyms (but we weren't there as long and didn't look around much for them). I had heard of one called Sydney Gym in Busan but wasn't able to find an exact address for it with my limited Korean language skills.
We are hoping to be close to Seoul if not in it...does anyone know if other cities (such as maybe Suwon or Incheon) generally have any larger gyms available?
To clarify what I mean by bigger gyms, we need free weights up to about 100lbs/45kg, squat racks, a bench, etc. Thanks for any help!! |

If you just want dumbbells up to 60, barbells, squat rack, a leg press, and some okay-quality machines -- you can find that just about anywhere. Suwon has this.
If you want 100lb dumbbells, and hammer strength plate loaded machines etc, I only know of Incheon and Seoul. Busan has that stuff too though if you look. This I can definitively say Suwon does not have. |

Thanks, good to know Incheon is an option. Anyone happen to know of any other cities within an hour or so of Seoul that have bigger gyms? |

There is a trend at the moment, to buy in these kind of modern looking, yellow and black weights and weights equipment. If you can find a gym that stocks those, they often have db's up to 45's (sometimes more).
Theres a gym by my place that uses them, its called 'Two bros' in Jamsil, Seoul. You can have a look at their website if you want to see what I mean. |

Much cheaper options than Body Star/ whatever the name of the other big chains is. That place is a fucking rip off. You should be able to find a small gym in any (larger) city in Korea that has what you need as far as freeweights and machines go. |

I'm curious why you say that. I've been a member there for years and find it's great.
Are you a member there? Which location? What do you expect from a gym that it did not have?
It's about 60k a month, and that seems pretty fair for gyms in Seoul. They also have tons of hammer strength and such. For me, they seem pretty perfect. |
