This post really touches a nerve with me. I have had bloody nightmares in Seoul because all they want to do is puff up my hair with a blowdryer!

I have thick hair and it grows like a weed. So most of the time I leave it kind of long (around the collar), and similar length on the sides. Otherwise I would be in for a haircut every week.

Anyway, for some reason, after they cut my hair, they want to comb it straight back and blow dry it! I HATE THAT! It make me look like one of the Bay City Rollers.

One day I asked them in broken Korean; "did I look like this when I came in here?"

Don't worry. You will eventually find a hair stylist who speaks some English and when you do, hold on for your life!

I have never had a problem. Just tell the guygal to cut it shorter where you want. Or, bring a pic and point.

Have you tried Blue Club? It is a chain and cuts are 5,000.

I hate getting my haircut here. As soon as they get the clippers out I fear the worst. Now I tell them to only use scissors when cutting my hair. The last place I went to was a nightmare. I asked her not to use the clippers but 5 minutes into the job she got them out. I asked her not to use them, and she got pissed off. When she got my money she didn't even say goodbye. When asking for the money she said "man won" in a nasty tone. Cow.

I had the same problem....

however, i went to toni and guy a few months ago, and since then, i haven't been dreading getting a haircut. they have people who speak perfect english, and they understood when i said don't shave that korean line into the sides of my head.

it's 30,000 won. more than a typical korean haircut, but about what i paid back home. they wash your hair twice, and while one person is cutting your hair, a 2nd person stands behind them and their only job is to make sure you're happy. they bring you english magazines, and a cushion to rest them on...a glass of water with a cover so that hair won't get into it....and they massage your neck and head for 5-10 minutes when they wash your hair...

i go to the one in apgujeong. if you're willing to spend 30,000, i'd try it and see if it's what you're looking for.

It's a British chain, I think. You know the two Rodeo Dr. entrance signs in Apgu? It's in the DKNY building, a couple of buildings past the entrance which is across from the California Fitness Club. It'll be on your right side, if the gym is behind you.

There is a guy three doors down from my store that does a good job. He doesn't speak a lick of English, but he pretty much does the same style that you currently have and just makes it shorter. I have sent a couple of people over there and everyone has been happy.
