Math was never my strong point...
1. On the first test the mean was 70, the standard deviation was 5, and your score was 80. On the second test the mean was 70, the standard deviation was 10, and your score was 90. On the third test the mean was 50, the standard deviation was 15, and your score was 80. On which test did you do best, relative to other students?
a. the third test
b. the first test
c. You did equally well on all three tests.
d. the second test
2. Suppose (before the days of Google satellite maps) you are purchasing a home in a small town in Missouri that you have never visited, since you are currently employed overseas. You are told by a real estate agent that the average value of homes in that town is nearly a million dollars, so you feel like you are moving into an especially nice location. You are pretty stunned when you finally move out to your “dream home” and find that except for some multi-million dollar estates surrounding a lake, most of the homes are much more ordinary than you had envisioned. How could the real-estate agent’s claim be correct?
a. The median is nearly a million dollars, because of the large estates around the lake.
b. The median is higher than the mean.
c. The mean is nearly a million dollars, because of the large estates around the lake.
d. The mode is nearly a million dollars, because of the large estates around the lake. |

If farmer Brown's wife weighs 1/2 as much as farmer Brown's pig, and farmer Brown's pig is three times as long as farmer Brown's dog, and farmer Brown's dog's tail is .146 % as long as farmer Brown's brother is tall, and x-2= 3.98783627536288373552628987300938, how many eggs did farmer Brown's rooster lay in three days? |
