Apparently GENO123 landed a uni job at nine hours a week, 55 million per year, no writing classes, where they treat him with the utmost respect. Otherwise how to explain the silence? The current lack of invective has me starting to think my own uni job might be ok (sigh). |

Seppuku, or harakiri, in the Japanese tradition perhaps? |

Yawn, so kind of you to drop by and take a break from your busy schedule finding out all the ways your coworkers are sub- par teachers. |

The prize for last-minute posting has been revised. Apparently Hanseo University sneaked in another after the award was given. Date of posting: Wednesday, 24 February 2016, at 11:43 a.m. New congratulations are in order. Speaking of that university, astute readers of this riveting thread may remember their original ad from earlier:
Quote: |
c. Hanseo University (not located in Seoul)
Date: Thursday, 8 October 2015, at 11:38 a.m.
Minimum Requirements:
• 4 years total experience combining education and work history (Example: Master's degree (2 year) and 2 years of university teaching experience or bachelor’s degree and 4 years of university teaching experience) |
Spoke with someone hired there in the past few months. Good news: plentiful, easy-to-get jobs due to slack standards, and among the many new hires (20!) were quite a few folks from abroad who had never been to the ROK before. Bad news: a mob of 50+ total non-Korean faculty, horror stories abound, and of particular note were references to intense micro-management from a waeg "head teacher" appointed as cat-herder. |

The prize for first posting of the New Season goes to: Suwon Science Collage [sic]-- Tuesday, 8 March 2016, at 11:23 a.m., and as the astute reader of this suspenseful thread has immediately noted, that is the spelling of the ad title. Yes, you can find employment in a piece of art made by sticking various different materials such as photographs and pieces of paper or fabric onto a backing, rather than a "college." Well done. Good luck to anyone who gets hired there. This is more likely not a posting for an "Assistant Professor (Native English professor) - Greatwer [sic] Seoul Area" for the Fall, but rather an act of desperation to get someone in there ASAP, as someone had to leave suddenly, or did not turn up as expected for the March 1 start. No deadline for application given either. Yes, that is another spelling error in the title. The writer was no doubt in a rush to get this ad completed. Caveat emptor. **Update** The "Assistant Professor (Native English Professor) - Greatwer Seoul" position is still available, as are the spelling troubles, despite the repost: Posted By: Suwom Science College [sic]-- Monday, 21 March 2016, at 12:20 p.m. |

Pretty lousy position--note that the rent is not covered--it's got to be paid out of the salary, so salary drops by over 600 if one wants that family apartment. Initially thought it looked ok, but no way would I drop a lower-tier uni job with included housing for that!
I applied to SNU back in the 90s, got the job, but realized I was making 800,000 more per month at a hagwon and didn't decamp. Korean profs complain too about the low wages, but they of course cash in on the prestige of teaching there... |

Looks like a good deal if you can work other jobs. I'm curious about the office hours though. Do they expect their lecturers to only spend 2 hours prepping for 12 hours teaching plus all the other admin a week? Or do they just prepare one or two lessons and teach them multiple times a week? |

Thought that the 600 for housing was paid over and above the salary.
No idea about the job, but imagine that you wouldn't be teaching 4 different courses, so your prep would be minimized a bit. Says two hours of office time, so..... |
