I just took my tiny 8 week old pup for a walk and it walked by some school kids then approached them with tail wagging. The students started screaming, the teachers throwing themselves in front of it screaming and kicking at it. Shocked Shocked

Um...why? That's all. Just. Why?

Seriously.

I have visions of that scene in Clockwork Orange where they keep Alex's eyes open watching horrific scenes, but in this case it is Korean kids watching Stephen King's Cujo.

I just don't get why the fear factor happens and sincerely want to try and understand this unique phenomenon. The fear happens way more than the 'Awwww how cute! A fuzzy puppy!" behavior.

Seems like many of the people in Korea don't know how to respond to situations with an "appropriate" amount of emotion. But that's the difference in cultures. My first year teaching, I would high-5 the students as they left the classroom. Little "Timmy" falls to the ground in agony after his high-5 and tells mommy that the teacher beat him. Thank God for CCTV.

Kids are over-reactors no matter where they're from. A lot of Korean people never seem to outgrow it.

Probably because dogs are not known to eat kimchi.

I wonder how many of you guys would react to a mouse? Mice are small cute little critters, yet I've seen MMA type guys climb onto tables like little school girls in fear of a mouse.

Well, animals like rodents are totally disgusting in my religion. Very Happy Hence why I got an F on my science class because I refused to dissect a piget.

I thought piget was a mammal. A delicious mammal.

Many Korean girls are overly dramatic, and craveany sort of attention. If they can squeal and attempt to act 'cute' they will....any chance they can get. They see a dog, they react, they get attention.

Another pet peeve of mine is when I walk by people with my dog, and then they whistle back and try to call him over. WTF?

Don't give it any attention when it walks by you, but now you want the dog to leave its owner to come say hello to you when you clearly just had a chance.

Morons.

Sounds like a sweeping generalization.

It's not. I have a pug and they do the same. A small dog that you could kick in the face if provoked, yet they act like he's going to tear their throats out.

My buddy had a good one. If the North ever attacks, they should just send over a few 100 dogs across the border. Watch the locals roll over. Pun intended. Cool

Sounds ridiculous since so many Koreans have little dogs, and you see them everywhere unless you're walkin' around with your eyes closed.

Yes, if anything, by western standards, they're OVERLY tolerant of dogs here. You see people bringing the little ones into coffee shops, restaurants, etc, which I don't think would fly in most North American locales.

It might be different with the larger ones, but even then, down here in South Jeolla, I see a local guy dragging his(rather unruly) canine brute around the neighbourhood on a semi-regular basis, and hear the barking of what I assume to be a guard dog whenever I walk by a certain business late at night.
