Hi all.

Does anyone know of any schools (reputable preferably!), or cities that are in less urbanised areas or regions!?

I know that SK is a highly urbanised country but I don't fancy living in a huuuuuuuge city, and generally prefer more rural areas...

Does the above even exist here!!?

Thanks in advance for any advice!

A lot of rural areas in Korea. The thing is, when you go rural in Korea, you will really be rural.

Check out(google) the town of Iksan, probably the smallest city that still has a stop on the KTX line, which makes it easy to get out of town when you get bored and want to see the big city again. It's not too big, but big enough so you won't be deprived of most amenities.

Most of Kangwon province is rural. Even in the 'cities' (Kangreung, Wonju, Chuncheon, Sokcho), you're never more than 15-20 minutes away from the boonies. The rest is farmland, mountains, lakes, beach, and the dmz. Either Kangwon or Jeju is the least developed, in terms of industry. Travel time to Seoul is anywhere from just over 1 hour to 3-4 hours, depending on location.

Thanks for all the info, very helpful. I'll get googling!

Does anyone happen to know of any good schools in the above regions??! I would preferably work with younger kids.... Ideally Kindergarden to middle school, although I do have a CELTA and some experience teaching teens and young adults.

Cheers.

Get your docs in order and start hitting up multiple recruiters. Most applicants want to be in Seoul or the larger cities, so you'll be easy to place and should have your choice of schools.

You can run checks on individual schools once you get offers.

What the last post said. There are *tons* of jobs in the countryside and more rural areas. Because most people prefer to be in Seoul. So start emailing plenty of recruiters and you should have your pick of the bunch.

Just let the recruiters know you want to be in the countryside.

And similar to what some previous posters noted, even comparably "urban-light" areas in say, Gyeonggi, are often just about a 15 to 20 minutes walk out to farms and mountains.

I recently worked at a small town in Gyeonggi, which seemed busy enough, but a short stroll and I was in nature and amidst little farms.
