Does anyone have experience with bringing an external drive to Korea? The contents are basically just movies and music, will they check or confiscate the drive?

Just about everybody flies with tech these days and nobody even blinks an eye at what is in your laptop case.
You are going to Asia, not America. (Returning home is a different matter and USCBP is a pain to deal with).
Nobody here cares that you have a USB HDD or what is on it.

    Get off the plane.
    Walk to passport control.
Get in the lane/lines for foreign (non-Korean) passports.
Hand in your passport to the immigration officer. Get your entry stamp.
Get your passport back and say thank you.

Go down the escalator and get your bags.
Stop at the exchange booth (inside the secure zone so the touts aren't watching) and get some won.

Go out through the "nothing to declare" path, through the doors and into Korea.
Avoid the taxi touts (they are all rip-offs). Find your local transportation and be on your way.
