If you're sure you won't be coming back to Korea, you might as well write the name of your academy here when you've left the country. They can't sue you for defamation if you've left.

I have heard that signing a form promising not to talk about an academy could protect them from a Labor Board case, which is pretty messed up. What's even more messed up is that the Labor Board has no power to enforce its decisions. (They can give you a release letter, however, so NEVER sign some slimy form from your employer.)

Please write the name of your former employer later. Don't feel any obligation to fulfill your promise to them, as they didn't fulfill their promises (the contract) to you.

Often times, the rotten employer will hold one's pay unless the document is signed.

It's possible the employer might not pay anyway, even if the form is signed. Then the worker is REALLY screwed. Of course, it's rare the the employer would be THAT scummy. They would usually be satisfied that they screwed you a bit and got your consent to do so. I think it's often more about a sense of power than it is about money.

It's too bad Immigration gives these employers unfair power (the release letter policy) and that the Labor Board can't necessarily do much except give a release letter (which she's not interested in anyway). Unless I were desperate for money I would not have signed that form. You can guess how she feels about it now. She would probably feel better if she had fought back in some way.

Seriously, it will often SCARE the employer if the teacher refuses to sign the form. In most cases, the employer (who has probably played many head games during your months of employment to make you feel subservient) will not be expecting that kind of resistance. Whether or not you can get all of your money, it usually feels better in the long run to stand up for oneself.

Mama's Bunny & Mama's Bear. Also called "Mama's House."

It's in the Beomeo area of Daegu. That location was probably my first mistake (rich mommies with horrific expectations), but I didn't know any better at the time.

The recruiter (who tried to convince me to hit him on CCTV so he could build a case against me as a violent teacher) was an older male. He also lied and said the school would pay for my airfare to the school. He's a pretty cold-blooded dude. I would recommend not working with him. Dunno if it's okay to put his name here or not.

So, just thought I'd give you guys an update, as some of you seemed interested in the outcome. I tried making a post on a hagwon blacklist, so hopefully that shows up sometime soon, but I haven't heard back from the guy/girl who runs the site.

1.) Found out I had $1000 in pension money saved up, so yay
2.) The school gave me my last paycheck, thankfully
3.) They also let me stay in my apartment until my original quit date, so I had a free month without having to work (I knew about some illegal tax stuff they were doing)
4.) Got a job teaching English to kids online (but might still get a job in here in Vietnam too because I love being with kids). Now that you've been in Korea for a while, you've got experience teaching, ESL experience no less, so I'd advise grabbing one of those jobs if you can. Digital nomad!!
5.) MUCH HAPPIER IN VIETNAM!!! They have PC bangs with Overwatch, kimchi, Paris Baguette, Lotteria, an incredible cafe scene, cheaper transportation, cheaper rent, much more beautiful architecture / city layout, funner language exchanges.... From what I've heard, you can make just as much money too if you stack a couple of jobs. But even 10 hours a week will probably sustain you. If I could do it all over again...nah, I did value my experience and I love all of the amazing kiddos I met there. Hopefully some of my School-of-Rock spirit rubs off on them.

Thank you so much to those of you who replied. Made me feel so much better to have somebody on my side.
