Hello,

As a UK citizen going to Korea to teach next month I was wondering if it is best to apply for tax exemption or to just pay tax in Korea?

I will be staying in Korea most likely from Feb 2020-Feb 2022. I want to pay the least tax possible whether it is here or the UK. I will be sending money to my home bank account frequently.

If it is best to apply for exemption how do I go about doing this?

I have read so many conflicting things about whether I should apply for the exemption or just pay tax in Korea and my mind is boggled. I can stay in Korea until April 22 if it makes things easier/better for tax purposes.

Thank you for your help.

Hi, you may want to post this elsewhere as these forums are largely dead unfortunately, having saying that there is sonething called the global reporting standard initiated by the OECD designed to counter tax evasion, about 100 countries have signed up and their banks are required to collect information about tax residency. The advice given if you are unsure about foreign tax residency you need to talk to your UK tax authority. Every country has different rules around this.
