|
|
A buddy gave me a cell phone. I went to SK to have it activated. Well after 45min and lots of phone calls to translators, they explain to me that there are no numbers available, and I would have to wait. So I go to LG, well they were no help there either, they kept telling me to go to SK.. lol.. damn it.. i just need a cell phone. |

Are you sure the phone was SK? If the old number was 011, then yes, go to SK. There are numbers available but not 011. You can only get 010 now. I would go to the SK webpage. http://www.sktelecom.com/eng/index.html
There should be a number you can contact. |

A possible reason you cannot get a new number is that your phone is too old for the 010 numbers and only 010 numbers are availabe now. How old is the phone? |

yes, you need a phone which you can use with 010. It is true that there are no more 011 numbers. I believe only new phones are compatable with 010. Wait.. I'll ask my friend. |

The LG service is 019, not 011. Maybe it was an LG phone with the SK service.
My Korean friend just said there is no reason why you should not get a new phone number. He only said it has to be with the same company as the old phone number your friend had. Just ask for an 010 number.
I think you are right abou going to Itaewon. |

Also, there is a new law. I think SK phones can switch to KTF and LG, but then later LG and KTF can switch to SK.
But, just get the 010 number because all phone numbers will change to 010 by the end of next year, I believe. |

also LG and SK foreigners can get a phone without a Korean cosigner or deposit. LG's activation fee is 30,000 won; SK's is 55,000 + 10,000 for an "insurance" policy. |

got the SK info from their website. Apparently they found an insurance company to pay off in case foreigners skip off
every place is going to charge you a connection or activation fee for a new account. If they don't they are lying to you. You may not pay it now but it will show up on your first bill. Mine with LG is going to be on my first bill.
BTW you may also need to bring your bank book with you. Apparently they want way-gooks to have the bill automaticlly taken out of their bank accounts
hey its better than either paying 200,000 won or getting a Korean to co-sign for you.
In this area and in getting a land line it has improved remarkedbly in the past few years |

well, things didnt work out again today. Went down to Itaewon. I went to SK. They tell me there is no numbers available (blah blah blah). I asked about a 010 number. The girl says no. Than i say, " well what if I buy one of your new phones right now. Than can I get a number." She says no. Sorry we cant help you. Try back in a week. I was like what the hell. How is it that I cant get a damn cell phone number. I went to LG, and since the phone had a 011 number on it first, they cant use it. I was gonna buy one of their phones but they one take cash.. lol. I have had an easier time in canada getting a loan. Why the heck do they make it so difficult. Well, I am going KTF tomorrow or the next day. If they cant, I gonna buy a phone from LG and have a 019 number. Does anyone else think this is stupid?? |
