I'm thinking of getting an iBook. Anybody familiar with this other side of the computer world? Any recommendations pro or con would be appreciated.

Kind of a general question isn't it? I used to have an iBook myself, with OSX, two years ago. I loved that machine. I unloaded it though as I was into games for a while and it's next to impossible to buy games for a mac in Korea. If you're not into games, as I no longer am, I'd highly recommend the iBook. I've seen them at Technomart. The one with the 14" screen is 1,900,000 won, but the computers don't get viruses and they last a long time. My friend is still using his apple iBook from 2000 and has had no problems. Any specific questions, PM me.

I'm interested in this too. A freind of mine is looking.

Anyone bought a Mac laptop over here?

Anyone brought one from home and had to service it here?

How has the experience been?

I'm sure the service is the same.

There's an apple store on the 8th floor at Technomart. Check it out.

I took apart an iBook once. Inside, the hardware is basically the same. The RAM is not special, nor is the hard drive. I used IBM 144pin Ram in an iBook.

Nothing in an iBook is seriously better than a PC in terms of simple hardware. Complex components, such as the main board, graphics and CPU chips, of course (different). Airport Extreme is basically 802.11 wireless, except it is superior in some respects...but not to die for. And for compatibility with wireless hotspots (Cisco, 3com, Agere etc...), it requires some tinkering (which you may not like at all).

My conclusions? The iBook is cool, and I liked it very much. But the iBook is not powerful enough, IMHO, and so, it is better to move right up to the PowerBooks or Apple Desktops. Otherwise, if you want a portable computer with great comparable performance to the iBooks, just skip the iBook and get an IBM Notebook - because at that level, iBooks just don't stand out (except for style).

Good luck!

Most people could give a rat's hoot and hollar about the insides of their computer as long as it runs well and looks good.

I care about compatibility with websites, games, and files from students.

I'm not talking about being able to load a file... I'm talking about not having to go through and fix all of the funky tabs and stuff once it's loaded.
