|
|
I just wanted to know how to handle being man-handled on a crowded bus or subway. A few weeks ago I was on a crowded bus and the man behind me was obviously getting his jollies. I quickly turned around and looked him straight in the eye, and he quickly looked away, but his hand remained on my rear . I got off the bus stop. Now, when I think about it, I should have just slapped him across the face, but I was afraid that he would strike me back. And being here, I don't know if would have helped me. Anyways, what have you done? |

you did the right thing...I guess it'd have been better if you could've told him to keep his hands to himself in Korean...but if you slap him..you might have caused a lot of sh*t that probably wouldn't have been worth it. I've noticed most Koreans do back down from the stare though, so long as you hold it for longer than them.. |

you could yell "bee-an-tae" (?) in his face. It means pervert in Korean.
I think literally it means flasher. but it is used to describe preverts in general. Someone can feel free to correct me on this.
you could also hit him after you yelled it. people would probably figure it out. |

Tell him that worse men in Japan had more respect for women. Or something along those lines just to get him ticking. |

You said his hand remained on you even after you stared him down? I would have grabbed the hand and removed it. No need to slap, as the others have said, you don't know what might happen and you're in a foriegn country. But definitely take his hand off you, and move away if he keeps at it. |

You have to learn pressure points of the hand. There are very many to get anyone on the ground.
Or a life saving trick to stop you getting drowned but also effective on the streets is to pinch the back of their upper arm. The pain stays there for about 5 minutes. |

In a situation like that, if he's behind you especially, just stomp HARD on his foot, smile sweetly and say" Oops!". It's never happened to me on the subway, but I've heard it's very, very common in Japan, and that girls there carry long needles to poke the guy with. |

I think it's Byoung tae. I could be wrong. It does mean pervert. |

Yaah!!! Byun-tae, Ha-ji-ma!!!
That means Hey Stop Pervert!
Not sure if that is the correct order... but I know those are the words that you could say |

/byun-tae means "pervert", but a flasher certainly falls into that category as well. If you need to be specific for some reason "/Burberry (sp?) man" is Konglish for flasher. I guess a Burberry is some kind of trenchcoat?
I'm a guy, so I usually don't get groped like that, but when random drunks, lunatics, evangelists, and overenthusiastic wannabe English students get a little too friendly for my tastes I hit them with one or more of the following useful phrases:
 /mahn-jee-jee mah-se-yo! - Don't touch (that, me, whatever)!
 /keu-man doo-se-yo! - Stop that!
ȥ ְ ϼ/hon-ja ee-ggay ha-se-yo! - Leave me alone!
 /jaw-ree ka-se-yo! - Go away!
I've never hit anyone, but I raise my voice and make it damn clear to the person and everyone else in earshot that their attention is not welcome. In every case of this I've experienced except one it's either convinced them to leave me alone, or convinced passersby to convince them to leave me alone.
Be careful out there! |

One trick I saw on Japanese tv: grab the hand, stick it up for everyone to see and ask loudly whose hand it is Guess it would be something like 'nugu son i-e-yo?' |

Make it clear by gestures and tone of voice and Korean if you know it that the behaviour must stop. If it does not then slap the guy hard or stamp on his foot or whatever seems most effective.
But be warned: Korean men may not be shy of using violence against women (it doesn't seem to be considered a low thing to do).
I would suggest you order yourself a mace spray off the internet and carry it around. Make sure you have your left hand on the mace when you slap him with the right - so that if he retaliates with a hook to your jaw you can stop him before he puts you in hospital. And humiliate him. |

Son Deureo!: Correct me if I'm wrong but it seems like the phrases you're using are a bit too polite for the circumstances. I wouldn't put any "Sae Yo" ending on....
I would say "Ha Ji Mah" for stop that..... or "Son Dae Ji Mah" for don't touch....etc.
(Sorry, can't get the Global IME to work on my computer to write in Korean) |
