I don't even want to talk about what you see down in Florida. Oh lord.

Only if you don't go further south than Orlando. Down in Miami, bodys rock! Or, a lot of bodys are rock!

People in the south part of Florida tend to be extremely body conscious, to a fault. It is the same with southern California.

In the Orlando airport I have seen some of the biggest people ever. It is really unbelievable. I do understand it. Central Florida is one of the most boring places on God's green earth. Eat and drive around on the freeway, eat and watch television, eat and sit on amusement rides. And just eat because there is really nothing else interesting to do. And it is just too bloody hot to go outside and exercise.

Very true. A lot of Floridians probably hate that others equate Orlando with all of Florida.

i wanted to say though, that i don't the korean food is particularly (sp) healthy for you. it's full of trans fats and it's all fried (unless you only eat rice and seaweed). while there are some skinny girls out there, i'd say that on average more koreans are overwieght that the people back home.

Ignoring the "it's all fried" part, which is incorrect, this post holds some validity. Sure the girls are, for the most part, rail thin, but the dudes tend to be pretty flabby -- at least past their twenties.

But "more Koreans are overweight than the people back home"? Where are you from, Ethiopia?

i'm from montreal. maybe it's just the area/crowd i hung out with. french people eat tons of cheese, drink tons of wine, smoke tons of ciggies and they stay thin forever! there are few fatties in the plateau/village areas.

as far as the fried food is considered, look at what you see people eating on a regular basis; look at the street vendors, they always have fried chicken, radom fish, and other random fried stuff. ok, not all of korean food is fried, but for the most part, it's definately not good for you. not to mention that ramen (which is super popular) is totally high in transfats.

You are referring to street-stall food, which is far different from traditional Korean meals. And raman is basically the Korean equivalent of fast food. In that regard, it is a much sounder choice than McD's, etc.

I've lost 2 kg.

I'm packing a lean and mean 73.4 kg.

I came at 75.4

You know I've been working out, lifting weights in Korea, for the first time in my life. And I'm losing weight. I think that only happens in the Bizarro World. Doesn't muscle weigh more than fat?

Because I'm huge.

Okay, not really. Wink

5'10 (179cm)
? (62kgs)

I have always been skinny. There was a time when I was this height and weighed 54kgs. Shocked

I was involved in competitive sport an eating all the time...the look wasn't good. But- there wasn't a thing I could do about it- three protein shakes a day, carbo loading....nada....Then, I went through a stint where I became the anti-athlete and shot up to 74kgs. I don't think my body really changed that much..I thought that if I could have been toned- then 70kgs was/is probably about my ideal weight...HOWEVER- if I show koreans my drivers license from when I was 70+ kgs.....I get gasps....oh SO fat!!!

When I compare my weight/ height to other females here- I feel like a behemoth....and it's the first time in my life!!!! Shocked

I've only gained about 4 pounds. However, it seems like I've gained a lot more. There's more fat on my body, maybe more then ever. At home I did the jailhouse workout for a year or 2 and had a lot of upper body muscle. I'm 6'2 and when I arrived 5 months ago I weighed 180lbs. I don't workout in Korea and now I'm 184 but I have a considerable beer gut that I've never had before. I think it has to do with all the carbs and of course the beer/lack of exercise.

I gained a lot at first even though I was eating a lot less greasy food and many more vegetables.

Then I realized the culprit: rice! (and eating dinner after ten at night)

I don't get all you people with the "I lost a zillion pounds since I came here".
What were you eating before?
MacDonalds and Pizza all the time? Drinking Coke by the gallons? Man! talk about reinforcing stereotypes of unhealthy North Americans.
Heck!
I never touched junk food or anything greasy...and I don't here either. Nevertheless, I have still gained enough weight that some of my clothes that I brought don't fit any more.
Back home I was a health nut, and now that I am here the lack of vegetable variety is making me sad. I ate much healthier in Canada and I miss being able to order a huge greek salad with dressing on the side.
It's the rice I guess. Damn kimbap.
Hardly ever ate rice back home.
(sigh)
Confused

It really came off when I stopped drinking 6 or so OB tall boys every other night.

But... tallboys make you feel like a cowboy.

Gained 7kg in Canada, lost it in one month after I got here. Unless I get lazy thanks to internet at home, I should drop more.

I'm in a small city and it's not easy to get to Seoul where to fun and fast food is, so I need to keep myself entertained. I took up walking around town to see what's here. My average hiking distance is about 10 kilometers, and I've yet to find anything interesting.

Ive lost about 50 lbs or 22 kgs someting like that, but Ive been walking and hour a day and lifting when Im not too lazy, The only diffference i see is its a little less convenient to pig out here than in the states, I mean in the states id walk into a real grocery store and get a frozen pizza and some ice cream, and im not talking single serving sizes like I find out here in the sticks, but If i have a bad week it doent matter Ill find a way to overeat, its a little tougher to walk or jog as here as well especially if your in a city which most are, try keeping your heart rate up when you gotta watch for buses and cycles every second! i guess you could make it a game of start and stop like that frogger game but that gets old and you look like a real dork! Umm gyms are quite pricey here as well.
