so my boss approached me yesterday about doing summer vacation intensive classes for those students who want it. she said that the classes should be focused almost entirely on speaking and conversation.
problem is, compared to other schools i've been at, my students' english at this school really sucks. none of their fault, just really poor curriculum from the korean teachers (GnB). and i only see them each once a week (50min).
so the boss says that even though the classes don't start til august, she wants to see a basic curriculum from me by next week. to me, this is very short notice, and i probably won't have much to show her. but i better start thinking about it.
does anyone have any ideas? what kind of things can i do with these kids for a month to improve their poor english conversationally? any good books out there? i would prefer to use a book as minimally as possible and the boss even mentioned taking them outside for one of the hours. any good speaking activities? anything? |

first....does it say in your contract that you are responsible for creating new curriculum? If it doesnt tell your boss that you are willing to make a new curriculum but you usually charge 4-5 million for 'new' curriculum.
If you actually really want to do it
For outside activities I have taken some of my classes shopping at the supermarket and sort of had a language exchange where I tell them what an item is in English and make the write it down in both English and Korean so they dont forget.
Have them bring in an article from a newspaper...magazine...internet and discuss it.
Family tree...very popular with many of my students they have to make a family tree.....Great grandparents....grandparents...parents...brothers/sisters and then they have to talk about each one in detail.....jobs, army experience, born, died. Lots of interesting information available here.
Hope this helps. |
