A couple of weeks ago I got the latest Realplayer update. I've always updated to the latest Realplayer if offered for free with no problems.

But, the frickin program completely stopped working after I downloaded and installed the update, meaning I could no longer stream off the web using Realplayer. (Thereby losing my beloved BBC online radio Crying or Very sad )

I tried several times in add/remove programs to uninstall Realplayer hoping to re-install it cleanly but a window opens immediately saying, "uninstaller component missing".

Tried Windows search and deleted everything related to Realplayer but 3 files cannot be deleted.

Tried Norton Wipe Info...same 3 file can't be deleted.

Anyone know the next step to take?

OS is English XP.

The first thing you can try is to reinstall realplayer again

Then try uninstalling

The uninstall component file can become corrupted and thus unable to be referenced for uninstallation

Try that and let's see ... also, make sure than the auto play is shut down from the system tray and check the task manager (ctrl-alt-del / taskmanager) and be sure no components are running at uninstall attempt

Then try this

Encountered a similar problem with RealPlayer 5 years ago, and have avoided it ever since. It's pretty safe to say I'm much more anti-RealPlayer than I am anti-Microsoft (for example). Amusing to hear they're STILL doing things to drive away their user base- RealPlayer and AOL are for modern-day peons and serfs.

Yea, I've not installed real player in years and I mean many of them

On a rare occasion I get a file that requires it, but I use Real Player Alternative which is the necessary codecs to play Real Media. It isn't the player, just the codecs, and thus plays the files in Windows Media Player just like other files.

There is also a Quicktime Alternative as well

They can be found via yahoo if you want them

Snufalufgus!!! Your link to Realone.com worked!!!

I ran the clean uninstall program as per the link you provided. The 'uninstaller component missing' did pop up again but I went ahead and re-installed Realplayer anyway. Success!!! I now have my BBC radio again Very Happy

Many, many thanks.
