I need to extend my visa by one day since I bought my ticket for the day after my contract expires. When I bought the ticket, I didn't realize that you had to leave by the exact date marked on your ARC. So, is it a pretty easy process to get the extension? Does it matter which immigration office I go to in Seoul, the one at Omokgyo station or the one near Gwanghwamun? I've asked my employer about this, but he's no help at all. He told me not to worry about it because there's a two-week grace period after the expiration date of the contract. He said he'll call immigration for me a week before I leave to inform them that I'm overstaying, and they'll put some kind of notification in their computer system. However, everything I've read here on Dave's and at EFL-law says that you MUST extend your visa BEFORE going to the airport. I'd rather not have to pay some ridiculous fine for nothing or get stuck at the airport and miss my flight. Thanks for any advice you may have.

You need the extension, or you'll get fined. Make sure you bring your plane ticket with you to immigration, so that you have proof that you're leaving the country.

I'm afraid I don't really know too much about the details, because my school handled it all for me. I do know that you need to go to immigration with your passport, alien card and ticket, though.

Don't believe the 14 day grace period!!! One of my friends was caught by immigration and only escaped a big fine by getting on his knees and begging. At least I hope it was only begging Shocked

It might be easier to change to a tourist visa for the one day. I had 10 days after my work visa expired before I left, and I just took my ARC and plane ticket out to Immigration at . I actually went to Immigration on the day my work visa expired, but there was no problem. It cost me a grand total of 100 for a photocopy. Very easy - and a lot better than a big fine.
