I also noticed that the school made a point of stamping every page with the school seal and having me sign every page, so that neither party could make alterations to the contract without approval. |
That's quite a good thing though as nothing can be changed by either party. I could change pages in mine if so wished as it was only signed at the back. |

|

I did do some research into this while teaching with Direct English (Pagoda) and discovered that some shady things had been done tomost of the teachers... namely that the English contract they had signed wasn't worth anything except to get the signature and date (which was subsequently ripped off and glued to the Korean version)... a few employees noticed this - and only ever saw a Korean contract (half of our teachers are bilingual)... Oh, and I asked a few of my (lawyer) students whether an English contract would hold up in court, and they said, "well of course they would - judges all know English" - apparently in the past Korean contracts were the binding ones, but these days, English contracts are common enough that they are upheld...
Anyways, none of that really matters compared to the over-ruling power of the Ministry of Labor... which sets a lot of it's own rules regarding workweeks, overtime, vacation days, etc. So a lot of the details in the contract are simply powerless and useless... whether or not the terms seems better than the Ministry's rules.
More info? Check out the Ministry of Labor's site http://www.molab.go.kr:8787/English/ladm/sub_4.jsp |
