So my 2nd years are studying vacations at the moment and I was stuck for something for them to do. So late last night I had an idea, pub quiz for class! I wrote a story about them going around the world and included the target vocabularly as well as costs and distance which the students had to work out for each seperate part and then total them together. There was some reading comprehension and on the back had some pictures of the vocabularly which they had to spell. I then had a cryptogram using clues from the pervious questions. I got them into teams of four and gave each member a part of the story. And said go. I had some oh yes as a prize.

The good thing about this lesson was that kids who normally struggle in english did well as there was some math involved. It also taught team work. The most efficent team was the one where they had a writer, a reader, a caluclator and a code breaker. It worked well in the big classes but I'm sure that you could adapt it to the smaller classes.
