Hi there.
I'm looking to move to Kroea to teach for a year but i've got a couple of questions that I was hoping someone might be able to help me out with.
Firstly, I want to go in August or September time. Is this a good time to go job-wise? I see that there are a lot of jobs at the moment and i'm a bit worried that they're going to dry up.
Secondly, I want to go there with my girlfriend and ideally we'd like to teach in the same school, or at least somewhere where we can live together. Is this possible? Also, she's not a native English speaker, although she is fluent at English. What problems does this pose? We're both graduates and have prefious teaching experience.
Finally, how do I pick which of the thousands of jobs to apply for?!!
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Many thanks. |

I'd say that this is going to kill any chance she has of being employed. I also don't know you or your relationship, but unless you're married I wouldn't advise trying to work together. If you break up, you're both stuck in the same apartment, working together in a foreign land. Not exactly an enviable position to be in. |

It should be noted that in Korea, in my opinion, the appearance of, rather than existance of, substance is the most important. The school will want her to have a passport from an English speaking country. If she has this then there wont be a problem. An accent has to be strong for most Koreans to catch it. I worked with a guy who was Turkish Canadian. He had a bit of an accent and English wasn't his first language, but he had a Canadian passport. I am not positive but I think nationality(legal, country of passport nationality, not heart and mind nationality) is an E2 condition |

1) August is one of the prime hiring times for hagwons. September is not.
2)This is an industry based on appearance. If your girlfriend looks and sounds the part of a lilly-white Canuck, she'll get the job. But I agree with Hank: Working together and living togther is not a good idea. I firmly believe that absence makes the heart grow fonder. But it's just a suggestion, feel free to ignore me.
3) 2.0 million won/ month minimum. The rest of your conditions arent usually worth the paper your contract is written on, so just look for the best promises and hope like hell the school follows through. The rest of it is a craps-shoot.
Hope that helps. |

Hi, just a thought. Last year, I worked with a guy from Germany. He spoke perfect English and knew grammar better than most native speakers, but he had to be hired as a "German" teacher, eventhough he was teaching English. I don't know if this helps, but it's just a thought.

choosing a good location is a great way to narrow down the choices. first pick your city, then do a little research and try and decide which part of the city you would prefer living in. |

Seriously, what is with the extreme necro-posting recently? This is not the only one, but this one is 5 years old! I doubt any advice would be relevant any longer.... |

The ones that have caught my eye were resurrected by mykrobb. That user currently has 24 posts, so perhaps he or she is trying to reach the 25 posts necessary to send a PM? |

i couldn't pm people because I haven't made 25 posts yet, so I figured looking around some of the old threads would be an easy way to fire off some posts |
