What prepared (or didn't prepare) you for life in Korea?

What prepared you for life in Korea?

First, living on my own for many years. Second, living for many of those years in Miami, where my language is second, and so is my culture.

nothing prepared me- I went baptism of fire style.

I spent a considerable amount of time interviewing both convicted con-artists and anal rape victims.

hanging around student government... getting ego crazy people to do things they don't want to do whilist thinking it was their idea in their first place.

I lived in Japan for a while and also throughout Europe so i was ready for what differences could be in store.

To tell the truth I find Korea to be pretty tame to adjust to. If people can't adjust for just one year(in a relatively good working environment) then I figure they really can't adjust to lifes hurdles anyway.

This cat grew up in Irian Jaya and Africa and spent the last decade wandering the world. So I don't find living in Korea that especially difficult or challenging.

On the other hand, nothing can prepare you for dealing with Korean people.

Five years living and working in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. After that nothing much fazes me.

Working here for 2 weeks. Then going home. Then coming back for 3 weeks. Then going home. Coming back for 4 weeks. etc.

Until eventually biting the bullet and saying to work "I'll stay for a year if you like"

The incredible urge to get the hell outta Canada.

Honestly, I've wanted to escape the cookie cutter life style of Ontario for as long as I can remember. As soon as I finished school I was out.

Finally landing in Japan and then Korea was such a breath of fresh air. I felt like I was finally breaking free and I have loved every minute in Korea since.
