I just wonder how many of the foreign English teachers in Korea are confident in their native language(of course English) and if they invest some of their time in studying their own language. Do you sometimes have difficulties answering your students' questions in class?

When I taught adults I had trouble answering some of their questions, more vbecause the rules for grammar are pretty complicated and some of the questions are damned obscure.

(Why do you get "in a car" and "on a bus" and is Wylde gonna throw something at me for using the "g" word? Laughing )

Back to the original question- I wasn't a serios teacher when I was working at hagwons, but god knows I am now.

few of us have formal training in either teaching or english. i knew very little english grammar until i studied sanskrit in the 80's and had to learn what all the grammatical terms meant.

english is full of exceptions to the rule... the "that's just how it is" answer crops up often to students' questions. it is good to hear that korean is not so easy - i certainly don;t find it easy!!!
