Hi there -- My friend and I have been offered a job at Yes Young Jae English School in Bumgae ( Line #4). Has anyone worked for this school before or know anything that would be useful? Any info on the school or the location would be great. Thanks! |

I know nothing about the school but if it's your first gig then 2.3 is pretty good. |

Hi. Is this a YES Youngdo English School? If so, I am in the process of deciding weather to sign on or not. THe one I'm looking at is in Songpa area. What are the conditions of your school? I've been researching for info and haven't found much. Try typing in your keywords in the search engine on here. It gave me a little bit, but still no decision.
Good Luck! |

Hi-- Well I think it may be possible that your school and my school are a chain and there is a spelling error somewhere. Or, they are two different schools..? Not sure. However, my school is located in Bumgae area. My starting pay if for 2.4 and the contract is for one year. How about yourself?
Where abouts in Canada are you located?
I'm in Ontario. |

I don't know anything about this school. The pay sounds good, though. Bumgye is also a pretty good place to live! It's not exactly in Seoul, but very close to it. Lots of good shopping, and good restaurants near by. Many foreigners. |

Hi again.
The YES that I might work for has about 8 schools around Seoul. Not a franchise I've been told, but a school thats owned by a husband and wife. I've been offered 2.2. 2.4 sounds really good. What are your conditions like? Do they need anymore teachers? I'm from Western Canada. In the Okanagan where the weather is getting more beautiful everyday and harder to leave. But its time.
Take care. |

i think you'd have to post some more details about the contract if you want people to even feign an attempt at giving you any input. for example, wasn't there some discussion a while ago about a job that paid millions and millions, but the hours were till midnight, 7 days a week.
what working conditions are they offering? |

Hi,
You should carefully read your contract. Exactly, how many 'teaching hours' or 'classroom hours' are you obligated to teach per month? It'll probably be 120, which you will find to be far too many once you get here and start working. If it is 100, then it'll be pretty doable.
Also what are your working hours? Split shifts, 1-9, 3-9? And more importantly are you working on Saturdays? You should find these things out before signing anything. Ask them if you can talk to another foreigner at the school. If they say that they can't let you do that - walk away!
Hope this helps! |

Hi-- I have recently spoken to more then one foreigner that works at the school and they all expressed that they love the working conditions. The staff is very friendly, non-intrusive, and very accomodating. The hours of operation are from 3-9:40p but the teachers don't work that whole shift. We have about an hour a prep a day. During exams, the teachers are excused from teaching that age group. The working hours are 30 for the week, equaling to no more than 120 hrs a month. Apparently there are about 100 foreigners in the 'hood'.
Yes, the teachers work on Sat but for only 3 hours max.
So far, everything sounds awesome. I am just waiting from one more email response. But you might as well say "it's a go!"
Thanks for the helpful advice. |

Love Hotels are some of the finest things about Korea. They're few story motels that tend to be quite nice and clean and very cheap. The good ones have internet, giant circular beds and apparently jacuzzis (haven't seen the last one personally unfortunately). |
